I have a nice (was nice) Harbor Breeze ceiling fan that I replaced at my parent's house. They said toss it but it's a perfectly good motor. Anything I can use it for? It started to sound like it was scraping something (probably off balance) and they are selling the house so they want simple lights everywhere.
Can I use it for something more interesting like a peristaltic pump or should I just sell it on craigslist for $50 or so. Like I said, it works fine. Under the same principle of "only use the proper tool for the job," the best a ceiling fan can be is a ceiling fan as it is designed to be. Peristaltic pump is about all I can think of using it as, maybe to cycle aquarium water.
tl;dr: Good motor, what purpose? Keep it or toss it?
Also I am not an idiot I can wire it to a plug...

you can do tons of stuff with em if you have the time and tools, maybe something like what this guy did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA9UVzEIkF0

I cannot waste a motor but I also have a distinct inclination against hoarding and keeping useless shit/projects I will never finish.

It's just a stylized fan (a loud one) that he gutted and rebuilt.
Sorry, not trying to be shitty but this guy has way too much time unless he can sell it to someone for top dollar, which he may, idk.
I'll check out the other videos though just because the build was quality. I'm thinking practical though.
Strip out motor and sell on Craig's list for a few bucks
