Hello /diy/
Does anyone here know how to make a digital piano, or know any sites which show you how to build one. I am trying to make custom piano with custom keys and pitches, so I really just need to know the basics.
Thank you.
Well the physical build would boil down to buttons actuated by levers and springs. It would get expensive, time consuming and tedious quickly. What do you mean custom keys? Just a custom layout?

No like it uses a tunning that is different from equal temperament, and I meant electric keyboard. Like a synth ect.
Since its a prototype it doesn't really need to look like a keyboard it can just be buttons. I need it to write the theory.

How many buttons/keys?

wait I need to check my book to be sure.

counting A=440 and its octave 880,
18 keys.

Could be done with an arduino using a parallel to serial shift register for input (so you can have multiple buttons pressed at the some time) and the a decent DAC for audio out.
I'd probably try to repourpose a keyboard than make one from scratch. Even if it is just a computer keyboard.

I would but I do not know electronics. I'm learning how to build acoustic pianos but making it acoustic would cost a fuck ton.

How do you think a digital piano is made?

why do you think I'm asking for help?
