Spiral wrap the cord on your powered site tools to prevent kinks, knots and add some minor abrasion protection. I heatshrink the ends to keep it in place. Have done ever since a neighbour tangled my shop vac to fuck and cut into the cable some how.

When framing walls, mark out 3/4" shy or long of where you want the studs, and draw a line with a framing square. put the stud to that line and you will be on center. Make sure you put the X so you know what side to line up with.

Just to point it out:

NEVER get under the car when using one of these, spare tire or no. For that matter, don't get under the car when using ANY kind of jack as the only support. Use jack stands or ramps if you need to do so.

Never thought of that. Was gonna post about the toothpicks... Golf tee. Learned something today.
>>
>>1108814
When I first started working on my own car I bought a pair of car ramps at a garage sale.
Used them for everything unless I had to remove a tire

If the tire had to come off I used an old scissor jack.
I dont remember what exactly I was doing, but I had the front drivers tire off and the hood open.
It was on just the scissor jack.

Not sure exactly what happened but the jack failed and the car hit the ground.
Luckily I was inside the hood and felt it slowly moving.

You dont have time to react and it just happens.

I didnt actually know that Jack Stands existed or that I was supposed to use them. Bad on my part, but now I have a decent assortment of jack stands.

I collect used rims (without tires) to use instead of jack stands. They are free and MUCH more stable. Rims even work on sand and many u-pull-it salvage yards store their vehicles on rims. Aluminum is best because it doesn't rust. I also keep lots of 4x4 and larger wood blocks handy for shimming, chocking etc.

Its really for commerical buildings with false ceilings. For example if you needed to add a light switch halfway down the wall and run the cable up you drop a plumb line from the top hole. By putting a loop through the lower hole when you drop the plumb it will pass through the loop, so pulling on it will retrieve the plumb. See poor sketch (black : wall, red : loop, blue: plumb and line)

I use the actual jacks that only go up and down by removing a metal bar by hand. First jack it up with the one that moves and slide those babies in so there is no chance of failure. Pic related.

Saw a guy die because he was stupid around his forklift once. He parked it up against a dock ramp without the breaks then tried to un-jam some shit in front of it. It only rolled forward maybe 4-6 inches but crushed his chest.

Dont just avoid mistakes eliminate the possibility of them.

Do large areas is squares or rectangle and leave wood in between like a 1 inch gap. Then itll absorb the shrinking and expansion of the concrete for a full years. Eventually itll wear and rot and you can just fill the gap.

Yeah, they are more common, but it isn't a coincidence. It's because snow can pile up on a less steep roof and cause it to cave in.

It's still a good idea to leave one unit intact if you're working on multiples anyway.

Even taking pictures doesn't always help. Especially with complex gearing or the presence of springs in whatever you're working on.

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples, but those two things just happen to be the ones I've had most problems with reassembly of items in the past.

>>
>>1109643
Op here, yeah I do. But I've seen many people on the roadside with just one of those shitty jacks.
>>
>>1108695
Whenever I'm disassembling something like that I always draw a sketch of the thing and put the parts onto the sketch in the appropriate place. That way it's impossible to mix up parts that look similar but aren't interchangeable.
>>
>>1109808
>But I've seen many people on the roadside with just one of those shitty jacks.

Because in all reality, when you change a tire on the side of the road you really are never under the car, and if the jack fails you probably arent going to get hurt.

I dont think a jack stand is worth driving around with just for tire changes honestly.

my father didn't gold either, but always had golf tees in his tool box just for plugging vacuum lines working on older cars.

i remember when my first car 's EGR valve went, my father just plugged the line with a golf tee and the car ran fine for a week until i got my paycheck so i could replace it. granted this was well before the OBD 2 standard and emissions check at inspections.

>>1108842
i use wax for lubing dressers, either spent stick candles or going to the store and buying a box of paraffin.
>>
also if you have an older car, keep high temp candles (waxes can melt at different temps) just in case a coolant hose springs a leak.

you can light the candle and drip wax over the leak when the vehicle is not running, the wax will actually seal the hose well enough to get you home so you don't have to pay for a tow truck.

if you have the room always carry an old fan belt just in case your current one goes, again its good enough to get you home. also having an adjustable wrench or socket set helps too.

as far as i'm concerned duct tape regardless of the brand is all garbage, it fails at sealing duct work after a few years, which is its intended use.

it might hold up well enough though to get you home, i've never tried it so i can't recommend it.

with 400 degree F candles, you at least have a light source (open flames are not really dangerous unless gas is already atomized in the air or its above 85 degrees).it's also a heat source if your stranded in the winter.

Clearly the problem is a retarded operator. It was originally called Duck Tape because it is waterproof. Then morons started called it Duct because reasons. It was never designed and was never approved for use in ductwork. If you weren't an idiot you would know that.
