So a frienday who I helped move gave me this computer. It was mostly together when I got it, but I wanted to more intimately get to know what I was doing when putting it together. I have already put it together but it did not connect to the monitor so I decided to get a better idea of what needed to be done. I tried Google, but after a bit of searching I realized that I needed a more hands on approach. I know this stuff isn't the best out there, but I do know that some of it was pretty good for its day. Please help me get this working and or lead me in the right direction of what I need to get it working. I basically just want to be able to play dark souls on pc so I can try out some mods and stuff Ive never been able to check out due to the limitations of playing on console. Tl;Dr please help put together for dark souls.

You don't know how to put a computer together? Is that what you need help with?
>>
Kind of. Like I know a bit, but I want to make sure I'm plugging things in where they go and not messing things up. Also I need to know if I'm missing anything I would need to get it working properly
>>
I've built a number of laptops, but pcs are somewhat different I feel like I'm missing something on this because nothing happened when I plugged the monitor in. The pc came on and I could hear the fans whirring, no incessant beeping everything sounded fine.

I'll keep this tab and enable auto refresh so ask anything you want, I'll be available for the next 2~ hours
>>
>>1108004

Hard drive power connector. If the hard drive (marked Seagate) doesn't have a corresponding hole you'll need a flat black plug about an inch wide coming from the power supply instead.
>>
>>1108004

It's a molex connector

Either a case fan(s), or a cd drive, hard drives, or floppy drives. Only older drives have this connection anymore so yours might have something similar to sata. If everything has power then don't worry about it.
>>
I've got it all put together time to plug it in and see if it shows up this time. Will keep you posted
>>
>>1108017
hold up goy, post final pic before you plug it in. The CPU fan doesn't look alright to me

bonus points if you post another picture showing it closely and where its wires go

The fan looks like it's not secured properly. Can you move/wiggle it around or is it stable? Does it have 3 or 4 wires coming out that connect to the mobo at a connector that says CPU FAN?

Fan doesn't move. That's just the way it is. Haven't moved it or anything.

It's on now no weird sounds/beeps. But still not connecting to tv. I have the monitor cable connected to an hdmi adapter and plugged into my TV. Could this be my problem or am I missing something?
>>
>>1108034
looks good
>>
>>1108036
>monitor cable connected to adapter

Is it VGA or DVI? VGA is an analog signal that cannot be converted to HDMI without A/D conversion, the adapter should be more of a box than an adapter.

If it's DVI then post pic of connector

PS
DVI-D is the shitty digital-only type
DVI-I sends out both digital and analog
DVI-A is a super-shitty analog only type
HDMI is 100% digital
>>
Tried using just hdmi cable nothing, tried using adapter and cable nothing. I know the computer is on I can hear it whirring. Doesn't sound like death. No beeping etc. Just no output. I have a mouse plugged in, but the light on it isn't coming on. Neither is the keyboard. Any clue on what it could be based on this information?

Keep on feeding the troll... none of OP'S GPUs has HDMI
>>
>>1108044
nigger that shit won't work, in order to connect an analog connector to a digital connector you need to have digital signal processing and digital to analog converter blocks, which will make it very, very expensive.

But you also said the mouse doesn't turn on, so that is cause for concern.

I recommend:
1- Take out the RAM sticks and boot the computer. If it makes a beeping noise then your motherboard is fine, load different RAM into different slots and try starting again.

2- Test that cable with something else to verify that it works. AFAIK some very special devices support crap like this since they have fancy implementations of HDMI/VGA where they can either output digital through VGA or output analog through HDMI, so know your hardware first
>>
>>1108048
That's a VGA > HDMI converter you autist

Motherboard has hdmi slot so does gpu. Took out ram turned on no sound. Need new mobo?
>>

Is the speaker connected?
>>
>>1108041
>>1108049
>>1108051
There's a reason I'm here asking questions. Like I said, I've never done this before. I don't know entirely what I'm doing. I've built a number of laptops and I could do that in my sleep, but pcs are kind of a different dimension.just trying to learn what I can and see what I need. I suppose I will need a new motherboard. I can buy that on ebay or Newegg or something. Just wanting to know what all I need to make this shit work. and yes I am an autist. That doesn't have anything to do with the situation nor does it help anything. I'm just trying to learn here.
>>
>>1108054
>no sound

Is the piezoelectric element connected? (speaker)

Are you sure the power cables are all connected and seated properly?

This might be stupid but, are you sure you used stand-offs when mounting the mobo to the case?
>>
>>1108057
No beeping I don't have an external speaker, but I've heard the thing beep a few times. It is not beeping without the ram in so I'm assuming something is wrong.
>>
>>1108061
>yes I am an autist

Are you >>1108048

>>1108063
So did it beep when it had RAM inside? How many times did it beep?
>>
>>1108062
Didn't have any when I got it. So no. I didn't realize I needed them. Again first time. It's possible it's fried now? Static discharge and the like.
>>
>>1108063
this should help
http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
>>
>>1108064
Beeped once when I turned it on the first couple of times hasn't Beeped the last few. Didn't notice it until I took the ram back out
>>
>>1108071
The buzzer comes with the mobo, you can see a picture of it in >>1108069

Try to search for something like that on your mobo or connected to a header somewhere.

If you are absolutely positive that it already beeped then you can be sure it has one on.

Carefully hear the beeps and note them down. Reinsert the RAM if you haven't already.

Do the fans still spin? Try connecting a mouse and a keyboard to different USB ports and see if you can get them to react in any ways.
>>
>>1108075
Keyboard is plugged into keyboard spot idk what the connector is called it's purple. Fans all spin they're fine. I don't really thing the mobo is fried, but I think something is wrong with it.
>>
>>1108075
Moved mouse around and got the light to come on but only on the front of the machine. None of the ports on the back showed any sign.
>>
>>1108081
>he's using the ps/2 connector

use a USB keyboard. Have you tried resetting the CMOS?
>>
>>1108075
Looked for that didn't see one, but I have heard it beep a few times at least. So I know it has one somewhere.
>>
>>1108085
I have not. I'm assuming it's the same as on a laptop. Just remove the battery for like a minute?
>>
> TV not set to HDMI input
>>
>>1108087
Yes. If that doesn't work then remove everything BUT one stick of RAM and your GPU of choice. Remove all PCI crap and all Sata crap, if it boots then keep adding components one by one until you get the error again, if you get it, then the last component you added was faulty.
>>
>>1108089
TV is on hdmi. But that would be funny
>>
>>1108090
also obviously don't remove the PSU or the CPU
>>
>>1108092
I'll remove whatever I want. lol
>>
>>1108090
Took out cmos. Turned on no beep. Looked again for internal speaker. Turned on again with cmos and I was looking in and I heard the hdd make a squeaking sound. I believe this was the beep I thought I had heard before because it sounded like a beep but I was looking into the machine when I heard it this time so I know it came from the hdd. Maybe I don't have internal speaker? If so how would I attach one and where would I buy it?
>>
>>1108099
Remove HDD, does the computer boot?

>Where do I get one
buy it online
>How would I attach one
It has a specific header. Use Google
>>
>>1108099
>I don't have internal speaker? If so how would I attach one and where would I buy it?

There is usually one mounted in the case with wires and a two-pin connector attached.
>>
>>1108101
Whirr, thunk, stop. Whirr, thunk, stop.
>>
Sorry for all the noob questions guys. I just have little knowledge of what I'm doing and I just want to know
>>
Systems admin here.

OP, hookup the onboard vga striaght to a monitor (no adapters, just straight up vga) then connect the mobo to the powersupply and fit a single dimm of ram, leave everything else disconnected.

If booting still fails, keep swapping out dimms. Once it boots then add additional components
