Hello /diy/
Yesterday while i was playing the guitar, some strange noise/hiss/pop appeared on lead channel. It's not relevant to preamp gain because it's present in spite of setting gain on 0. Rhythm channel is absolutely quiet. I swapped tubes around - no noticeable change. I've also tightened tube sockets - no change. Might it be some dead capacitors in signal chain or what else?

I had a similar issue with a crate 212gfx and couldn't figure it out for a while. I figured a cap was shot. None looked bad, i didn't have anything to test them with. Long stort short, i cleaned the pots and the noise went away. The onboard effects thing was pretty much shot since i got it, and it fixed that too. Also, I used wd-40 to clean them, despite not wanting to because it attracts dirt. But i read some shit on the internet and some people swore by it, and i had already gotten a different amp so figured fuck it.

O and by "similar issue" i meant noise one channel, not the other. Gain setting at 0. Just got worse and worse until i stopped using it. I assume more pots were getting dirty (it's like + 20yrs old).

could have at least used the propah wd40, if you cant afford deoxit, or whatever.. ;)
i actually use some cheap crap, cant remember name, does fine tho - wd40 (ordinary) fine for emergency/temp quick fix/you want fix 1 or 2 pots, thats it - but, if its something you gaf about, may as well use a residue free specialist cleaner, otherwise, wd40 etc. will gunk it up, eventually.

Yeah, i didn't really want to (i didnt even use real wd40.. it was the b'laster brand wd40 that came with the PB penetrating oil 2 pack). But i fig'd it was already dirty. Now i know it fixed it I'll probably spend the $ on the good stuff to clean the residue from the wd40.

Capacitor effect with wd40 because silicon inside

Fixed. I used MoS2Oil (some anti rust spray) in all tube sockets and rubbed all tube pins with it and it worked

OP it looks like you aren't playing out of a Mesa dual rec, this would solve your problem.
