Hello again it is me again your favourite pliers you will never need
>>
>>1095008
My family decided to forgo doing individual gifts, instead we'll be doing a dirty stanta/white elephant kind of game.

That means that my normal christmas budget gets to go to fun stuff.

Already Bought:
Hakko FX888D
Adafruit Metro
New Dremel
RasPi Zero
A bunch of electronic components
Monoprice Maker Select

Going to Buy:
Bench Power Supply
New Drill

All in all, probably one of the best Christmases yet. I wouldn't have saved the money had it not been for gifts, and then the turn around gave me a lot of free dough.
>>
>>1095013
I actually thought about buying those for my brother who uses an adjustable wrench for literally everything. Terrible I know.

I think im gonna get him these screw extractor pliers. Made in Japan supposed to be bretty good.
>>
>>1095013
>never need
>>
>>1095020
i'd be surprised if those work well without any locking mechanism
>>
>>1095057
They are pretty well known for their mythical grip because of their Japanese folded steel teeth are real hard and sharp. Sort of a cult status pliers.
>>
Made my gf a flannel quilt that I didn't take pictures of for whatever reason

Also making her a stretch cotton and silk georgette dress with matching dark moonstone and sterling bracelet and necklace. In the process of which I've realized she needs a jewelry case so I'm restoring an antique flatware case for this purpose

I cut up an old cardboard box and made it into a different cardboard box with some sharpie on it
>>
>>1095061
Did you use a template for the flannel?
>>
>>1095129
Whats the purpose of this
>>
>>1095057
Now there is a good idea
Grind some grooves longways into some vise grips jaws.

Nope

I just did simple strips, big blocks. Topstitched the perimeter and ragged the ends. Wanted to get it all done in an afternoon so I kept it simple
>>
>>1095631

why do you keep your girlfriend trapped and adorned with flannel, forced to assemble puzzles?
>>
>>1095656
Because she wouldn't eat all the eggs
>>
>>1095008
I'm making a sign for my brother's tiny house, using a router. I'm making another for my sister that has her last name on it. I'm also making generic "welcome" signs for various family and friends. Other than that, I'm making a lot of pyrography projects. Cheap planks and a little bit of time has saved me a lot of money, and they are turning out really nice.
>>
>>1095731
requesting a photo of the lil house

Starting to believe it's actually something people do and not just a meme topic for Indie documentary student projects
>>
>>1095731
Do you have stencils and a pantograph or something?
Ive always wanted to build welcome signs and shit for art shows. Build a CNC router or something

A sort of stencil. I'll design what i want on the sign, then reverse the image . I get it printed at a kinkos, or wherever I can get it printed with toner rather than ink. I'll tape it to the wood, and use a wood burning tool with a heat transfer attachment, and get the image onto the wood. From there, it's just using a router and knocking out the black. Here's my current work in progress.

Made this for my step mom. Just gotta drill pilot holes for the hooks then screw them in.

Really went all out for my dad, but it's not finished yet so I won't post it.
>>
>>1097757
what exactly is it?
>>
>>1098603
A coat rack. Or well an anything rack. If she doesn't want to display it in the foyer, she can stick it in a bathroom or something. IDGAF, I only made it for her so she doesn't feel bad because I made something really nice for my dad.
>>
My friend is into welding, and milling w/ a drill press. Would someone mind throwing a couple gift ideas my way, preferably under $50?

Built a reclaimed wood coffee table for my sister [inb4Pallet,noneused] and branded it with my grandfathers old branding iron. She wanted me to leave it rough and rustic looking
>>
Hinted that I wanted a good-tier auto-darkening hood, my current Lincoln one is kinda heavy and after 8 hours of welding every day it's actually starting to fuck with my head and neck.
>pls santa

>>1098683
Good gloves are always always welcome. If he does TIG maybe a TIG finger (weld monger store or something), it's really nice to have. Also you can never have enough locking c-clamps.
>>
>>1097757
>it's not finished yet so I won't post it.

Better get with it, christmas is right around the corner
>>
>>1098684
>She wanted me to leave it rough and rustic looking
Good, looks like it will warp anyway.
>>
>>1095008
Got my brother a bosch angle grinder.
>>
>>1098683
collet rack obviously
>>
>>1098720
Cross supports underneath. Planks planed down on one side only to same thickness and glued together and doweled. If it warps its not from anything i did.
>>
>>1098683
If he's milling with a drill press he's likely chucking the mills and not using collets.

Get him this:
https://www.amazon.com/CRC-06026-Heavy-Corrosion-Inhibitor/dp/B0000AXYA0/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1481927218&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=crc+protectant+marine

It is superb protectant for any machined surface. Prevents flash rust and is easy to clean off. I spray my end mills, collets, drill bits and many machine tool surfaces like lathe ways. He will use it and as a probable noob he may not know it exists.
>>
>>1095013
I have to use these at work all the fucking time...

Cut some bear shapes out of cork, going to add magnets to the back to me mini message boards. Can't figure out a way to cut halfway into the cork to extract a piece and make the magnet sit flush, so I guess I'll just stick it to the back. Kind of half-assed I guess.

A super easy mass gift I did last year was I etched some glasses with peoples initials and a nice pattern to go around them.
The type of glass I etched depended upon what kind of drink they liked.
Dollar stores are a good source of plain glass mugs and glasses so it was pretty easy to get a hold of the materials.

Ended up etching 40 some glasses.

I made a shitty elders wand from Harry Potter. It was shit because it turns out the glue gun I own does not have a pointed tip, so whenever I poke holes into the damn wand, I get the damn hot glue strings everywhere.

Not to mention the local snowstorm put an end to painting the damn thing
>>

I thought of doing this too. Not any specific shape, but something unique. I planned to make a box for it as well, with a faux velvet lining on the inside. By the time I had mentioned it to my wife (it's for her sister), she had already bought a gift. It's probably for the best, since I'm making several gifts already, and they still aren't done.
