Hello /diy/. What's the best way to transport a rigid 2' x 4' solar panel weighing about 15 lbs on foot for a long distance, while also wearing a large backpack? After trying in vain to rig up a mediocre rope harness, I come to you for help.
Given the fragility of the solar panel, it's especially important that it not be allowed to bump against me as I'm walking. I basically need a system that holds it snugly.
Is this doable or am I looking at those overpriced folding units?
Get a person to hold the other end like its a strecher. If it is really that far then you can make some handles.
If you dont have one near by you can usualy rent on for less then $10/hour.

Just put it between two pieces of ply and put some rubber wheels on.

Don't forget to add rails on the bottom for some epic grinds.

Wrap a old blanket around it for protection. Then use straps or light rope to strap it to you.

Fold it up and put it in your pocket.
Not sure how to rig it but the first thing I would do would be to put it between two sheets of polystyrene and cover with plastic wrap. That'll make it much easier to rig up without damaging it.

Are you trying to have it run while youre carrying it?
What the fuck are you doing nigger, buy a collapsible one, you weren't seriously going to lug around a massive flat panel were you?
I'm guessing you have other stuff to carry?
If it were me, I'd build a cart, throw a motor on it and ride/power assist it up with your stuff.

create a suspension/offset frame out of aluminum around the panel and then use that as your backframe upon which your bag is mounted. when you are done hiking for the day, you can just slip your bag off the frame and mount your panel somewhere.

What do you need the panel for that you can't just use one of those foldable / rollable ones?
Are you going to permanently install it for some kind of innawoods shit, or just charge your phone with it?
By the time you build and test some shitty rigging to carry the thing it'll still be cumbersome and just buyfagging a portable unit will probably be more feasible.
