Greetings/Diy/nosaurs.
So i got this terrarium (plus water bowl and hideout) for free and decided to get a low maintenance pet to keep inside. I'm having a problem with heating and maintaining humidity. I bought an under the tank heating pad but it is not having an effect on the temp of the terrarium.
I bought an emperor scorpion and it need 85 degrees f on the hot side. It turns out that the heating pad (zoomed Reptitherm U.T.H.) only increases the temp 2-5 degrees. The temp in the room is 70 degrees. I cant use lights because its a scorpion. How the fuck do I heat this thing?
Also, I'm in colorado and its a bit dry. The humidity level needs to stay at about 80% but it drops to 40% in just a couple hours even though most of the top is covered. How do i keep the humidity up while I'm at work?
I dont want to kill my scorpion. Any help you can give would be very helpful.

I'm in a similar situation tßh. I have a small Texas tortoise pet (pic related). I got her as a gift almost a year ago. She's as low-maintenance as it gets, I haven't spent a cent in her so far, she eats cactuses that I grow myself just for her, I tried feeding her other vegetables but she refuses to eat anything besides cactus. She's been living in a large cardboard box in my deck but it is getting a bit cold in here and I'm planning on moving her inside my room and put it in a terrarium near my window so she gets enough sunlight and a lightbulb to keep her warm on cold days.
Any tips?
>inb4 release her
She was born in captivity and will most likely die if I set her free.

I actually have a fogger. I guess I should just get a timer that goes by minutes. The timer I have now will leave it on for 30 minutes which would make the terrarium way way to wet. That, plus a red heat lamp should solve the problem. I really dont want a red light in my room though.

I'm actually having trouble finding a timer that only leaves a product on for a few minutes at a time. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I had an emperor scorpion. You aren't supposed to put the mat under the terrarium as the scorpion burrow and might feel it too hot. I had the pressed on the back wall, them mats. Can't remember how I controlled humidity but I remember having problems with mold?
I think I had much as substrate in the terrarium, shredded bark maybe?
When it got dark the scorpion would start wandering in the terrarium and tapping the glass.
The glow in UV which is cool.

thanks.

I have it mounted to the side. The terrarium should be cleaned regularly and the substrate replaced weekly to prevent mold.

a lot of electronic timers, like the Noma/Woods TD1000 will let you program cycles as short as 1 minute. they're pobably easier to find and to use than the other gadget.
