Or wait a couple of weeks for it to completely harden and buff out the inevitable fucking dust.

Best I got is:

1. Thin with naphtha I like to use 20% naptha, quite thin
2. Apply thin
3. LET THE FINISH DRY UNTIL IT PASSES THE 'TACKY' PHASE
4. Sand (I've had better luck with random orbital sander w/220 grit than doing it by hand). It will almost look like you've undone all your work after sanding
5. Use a tack cloth to rid the workpiece of dust before repeating 1-4

I like naptha because it dries faster than paint thinner or mineral spirits. Thinning is important imho because it lets you lay down thinner, more even coats that dry quicker which is the key to getting good results. Sometimes I make a few fast passes with a heat gun to flash off the naphtha after an even coat is applied.

thinning in excellent advice. Second excellent advice: use steel wool to buff/sand between coats, not sandpaper.
Last excellent advice: I get better results with practically anything other than Minwax. It's not awful, it's just more 'bulletproof' than 'awesome results'. Arm-R-Seal is my go-to.
