There is nothing specifically magnetic about enamel coated wire which is why normal people call it enamel coated or simply enameled wire.
People who say magnet wire are the same type of people who say ampacity instead of current (but don't say ohmage or farenheightage or milesperhourability.)

I've seen it sold as, "magnet wire", all my life. I even just got some, and it's labeled magnet wire, as were all the other coated wires this gauge when I bought it.

It's like a, "canning jar." It's labeled canning jar, but 99% of the people who buy them never will can in them, and use them as storage containers, glasses and cookware. The 1% that do can in them, still use them as storage containers most of the time, and not for canning.
