Why does it have to be in a glass fuse package? And if you made your own PSU you should be able to make a polyfuse fit in a glass fuse spot

because i'm using pic related on the + rails and i don't want to change the design (looks more convenient).

I could disassemble a glass fuse and fit in a SMD polyfuse inside, but why bother making manky fuses if these exists anyways?

When I worked on home electronics years ago my bench had a variable ac power supply with an ammeter on the front.

If you wanted to test something that could blow a fuse you set the thing to zero and slowly brought the voltage up while watching the amps. If they got close to blowing the fuse you could just shut the power off.

Would also work for things already powered on as you could easily watch the amps.

well it's a home-made PSU, like i said, built over a PC PSU, so i have a static 3.3, 5, 9 and 12 volts.
The PC PSU already have short protection, so it will just turn itself off if something start eating amps (and the PC PSU can provide loads of amps). The fuses are a protection for the shit i'm powering.

Then what you need is a current limiter / constant current source.

You can make one with an LM78xx or LM319 (if I remember the name correctly)

There is a generic 1,5v to 37v. adjustable linear regulator, where the datasheet shows how to construct a current source/limiter.

i could do that, can't i? but then again, i need to pull the PSU, unscrew the fuse holders (they are on the back), etc.
it would be just more convenient for me, if the fuses are reusable as polyfuses are.

Cars use blade style circuit breakers.
They auto reset when tripped once source power is removed.
