I've been trying to figure out why my dryer is running too hot. I've cleaned it and checked both the thermostats for continuity and they're good. I've also checked the heating element and it looks good too. I'm unclear on what to check next. Any ideas?
clean filter etc

What is the thermostat controlled by? A bulb? Is the bulb clear of debris, and functioning properly? If it is only sensing 200 at 300 degrees, it will be too hot. What I'm getting at is replace the thermostat with a universal adjustable one.
Run it with the back off so you can see the state of the element. If it never turns off then some thermostat isn't tripping.

I did and got the same burning hot smell, so it might be that. I'm going to try again after I've cleaned everything, as I just took off the lint assembly. Blower motor is fine, but should the thermostat make a small jingling noise when I shake it?
Never overlook the simple things!
Check your dryer exhaust to make sure nothing is clogged!
>be me
>car won't start
>check "everything"
>throw parts at it
>still won't work
>swallow pride and take to mechanic
>it's a fuse
>$0.37
>fuck
Check the exhaust all the way out of the house. In some places it's getting cold at night and some animal could have discovered your heater exhaust.
