Check out crushed asphalt. It packs hard, water doesn't wash it into nothingness like crusher run, and it's so light I raked four truckloads out by hand (granted, I like exercise).

Crushed asphalt works fine on my otherwise soft and muddy driveway and I've had it there since the late nineties. Takes weight well and didn't deflect when my shipping containers were delivered.

Hi OP! I wonder why your house is made of wood? I always have to cringe when people have wooden houses in risky areas. Do you have floods in your area? If so, build a strong concrete foundation and make sure your front door is above water level (when the river floods).

I was in Croatia ones and there you have stone houses and they were build during the time the Romans ruled. It is also nice if your your family would life there for a lot of generations.
