>>1047861
Yeah but if you're pouring metal onto wood that's in an enclosed mould you're probably going to trap gas and get pin holes.
Maybe you can kiln dry the wood or something to get all the moisture out - who knows. It just seems like this process doesn't really lend itself to casting quality.
Maybe you could have really fat runners and lots of vents to compensate, or just use Zinc-aluminium alloy to bring the temperature down.
A must have for every parent

I once had a situation where I needed to get a lock removed but I no longer had the keys because they had been stolen, the locksmith quoted me £80 (about $100) for one lock, instead I bought a £20 ($30) angle grinder and cut it off myself, and I still had an angle grinder.
At the price in the advert you could almost call it a disposable angle grinder!

no, it's actually true. 1951 was back when seatbelts were an option that not very many people shelled out for and there was no such thing as a car seat. so the play area would keep your 3 year old (who was too small to safely use a seatbelt even if you had them) from falling headfirst into the foot well.

Graduating to my 4th backyard foundry. Litterally backyard. Like, i'm digging a hole in the ground 3rd world style and ladeling aluminum ingots by hand for profit. Building a log splitter style can bailer. As it turns out i am buying another dumptruck just to haul aluminum. Fucking stock car guys man. They fuckup aluminum sheet car bodies and radiators until they have a truckload and haul them to the scrap yard at $0.25 a fucking pound. I'm buying a portable scale and doing home pickups for $0.30. If i ever get enough presses and rollers to make aluminum plate i'm buying a tig welder and building a house. God help my neighbors if they piss me off.

>you could almost call it a disposable angle grinder!
not 'almost'... it IS a disposable angle grinder... if you aren't needing one for daily heavy use - if its just the every now and then weekend project then why not. $10 and see how long it lasts. I have this one and so far no serious issues - then again for me its not for daily heavy use. I will say though that while grinding you need to take breaks and let it cool down a bit. it does start to get warm then hot after a while of *continuous* use.
>>1051616
also got to remember back then there were a lot less cars on the road - heck there weren't as many roads and no 'super highways' either. there weren't as many places people needed to get to (in a hurry) - most people lived their entire lives within a 50 mile radius. cars back then were built like tanks - thicker steel body panels and heavy duty ladder frame under chassis and thick steel bumpers. also figure that they didn't go as fast; cruising highway speeds were more like 50 or 55. also less women drivers and less young (teen) drivers. typically there was only one car owned by a [suburban] family and the patriarch was the one who drove it.
no cell phones either that drivers had to use while driving to update their social media every 2 minutes.

Not trying to pick a fight here but your scenario could happen with any angle grinder, especially if you remove the safety guard over the disc, I've seen discs shatter on high end angle grinders, and it has always been because they were being used incorrectly and side force was being applied to the cutting disc.
