Hey /diy/ I used pic related to program mcu's, I wanted to try arduino so I want to burn the bootloader on an atmega832p, but I always get the error avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device "usb".
Google says it's a driver issue but this can't be becaus when I reverse the connector I get an error that the connection on mosi and rst failed.
Pls help me :(
windows 10?
The vast majority of atmel USB programmers basically don't get recognized by windows 10. Legit and fakes.
I can program the mcu's int atmel studio just fine, but I can't burn the bootloader. Since in can read out that the connector is reversed I don't think it's a driver issue.
hmmmm, I just flashed a hex file to my atmega with avrdude and everything works fine... Guess the arduino ide fucks some command up

Why would you buy a flash programmer and then use it to flash the arduino firmware?
The point of a flash programmer is to skip arduino and use C with debugging
why didn't you just buy a cheap knockoff

not op but would like to use atmel studio instead of arduino ide. should i just get any avr programmer off aliexpress/ebay? any specific good ones?

The best board by far is the atmel Xplained Mini.
It's like 10 bucks and it's fully supported. Also it isn't a cheap knockoff because it comes from Atmel (or I guess microchip now?).

I already had it, I just want to try out the arduino bootloader.

oh boy

Why?

run as admin or
reinstall Arduino IDE and drivers.

if you are already programming with ISP there is literally no reason to use it.
its only use is the wait for usb asp programming at boot. making boot a few seconds instead of almost instant.
I'm an analog/logic fag who isnt all that into mcu.
but if im gonna go mcu i use atmegas programmed in the arduino isp.
but i use isp and no bootloader
