What are some of your favorite DIY scenes that Hollywood made? The best one I've ever seen was the counterfeiting scene from "To Live and Die in LA". The director wanted it to be so authentic they hired real counterfeiters in it.

I think it was that movie with radio that could talk back in time.
There's a scene where a guy is alone in an office and knows someone is about to walk through the door to arrest him. He splashes a cup of coffee under the door, unplugs a lamp, rips the power cable out of it, strips wire with his teeth, connects one wire to the door handle and puts the other in the coffee puddle, then plugs it back into the wall.

would that work irl tho? would he not need to be not wearing shoes, and for the coffee to be really conductive?

Just touching one live wire on the doorknob would give someone a startling shock.
If the shoes weren't a good insulator it could cause involuntary muscle contractions in including the heart. Electricians wear insulating work boots to prevent situations like this, so I don't think an average pair of shoes offers much protection.

The average pair of shoes has rubber soles, a synthetic insole, and cotton socks between a puddle and the wearer's skin. Any one would stop wall voltage, and a puddle of coffee on the floor isn't going to matter unless the soles are worn through to the point where the coffee can directly contact skin.

Electricians also do not wear special shoes unless they are working on high voltage live circuits. Most wear standard work boots for comfort or regular walking shoes.
Pretty much all of The Martian

this, The Martian is basically 2 hours of SS13-esque "I have these metal sheets, time to build and entire self-sufficient station out of it"

Can I get a ruling from you OP? Which wins the DIY TV award: the A-Team, or Macgyver?

Standard work boots in a developed country will have shock resistant soles

All mass produced shoes have shock resistant soles. Here most electricians wear cowboy boots.

i respect people that can produce currency perfectly. i collected fakes when i was a cashier in high school. the good ones, not ink jet printed BS. the colombian super bill is the gem of my little collection. there was a big operation in my city that lasted a long time and did it right before being busted. some kids liked trains and grew into adults with an obsession for trains. same thing but no trains for me lol
great vid.

like you and op I've long been fascinated by the amount of work, artistry and cunning that goes into producing modern counterfeits. I started out reading about that shit on bombshock. Never tried it myself, more of slightly morbid fascination with how resourceful and skilled a criminal can be.

>tfw you daydream about pulling off the perfect heist
sometimes i think the reason the people with technical skill are paid so much is to dissuade them from engaging in such things.

It's working with the latest PC game copy protection, denuvo. They hired crackers to develop it.
