How to making the stoppage of squeak when window is slide????
>>
Lubrication.
>>
>>1039699
wd 40... or rub a candle over the slides...

vasoline would probaby work too

basically any kind of lubrication....

probably not motor oil though, at least not in large amounts...
>>
>>1039699
silicone spray, white lithium grease spray, or mineral oil are my small scale lubricants of choice. Any of them should work well in a window.
>>
>>1039706
Do I just spread it on one part of the slide and then run it back and forth a few times?
>>
>>1039703
>wd 40
>lubrication

errors
>>
>>1039706
>white lithium grease
yep
>>
>>1039721
That will probably work. Might leave everything greasy. Best way would be to find exact source of squeak and lube there. Otherwise, just do whole track.
>>
>>1039724
WD-40 is a lubricant, anyone who says otherwise may be genuinely retarded
>>
>>1039748
Its a penetrant, not a lubrication
Its made to "displace water" hence the name "Water Displacement [Formula] 40"

Only a retard lubricates with it, because it dries very quickly and leaves no lubrication at all.

Oh and dont worry, the WD40 brand has you covered if you do need a lube. They sell them under their "specialist" name
>>

From WD-40's own site:
>Myth: WD-40® Multi-Use Product is not really a lubricant.

>Fact: While the “W-D” in WD-40® stands for Water Displacement, WD-40® Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.

Faggot.

>vague marketing non-answer that twists words around

But hey, why fight semantics right?
I just love how it describes its functionality here and on the bottle as purely things you get out of a penetrant.
>anti corrosion coatings
>soil removal
>water displacement
>penetration
>free sticky parts
>stops squeaks
>protects metal
>breaks free rust

But hey, it has a "special blend of lubricants" in it so it has to be a lube right!

Just the worst fucking lubricant on the market, 3 hours later when it dries and leaves its white corrosion coating on shit it no longer reduces friction at all!

Or you could just actually use something that is made to reduce friction long term, like an actual lubricant.

>oil

Face it man, you tried to be a wise cunt but were just being a real faggot.

I was trying to make sure OP wasnt misusing something that is very commonly misused by the uninformed.

I am glad you were in this thread to lead me to the light.
Who needs PTFE or Teflon embedded grease for long lasting lubrication?

Anything that has a small amount of oil will do!

OP, the MSDS of WD40 says that it is <25% mineral oil, and from what I have learned is the primary lubricant in WD40
I suggest you cut out the middle man and buy the 100% oil, you can get it at your local pharmacy for very cheap.

The best part is it will actually last longer than the WD40 would!
>>
>>1039800
No, he wasn't, WD-40 is a last resort. It may lubricate, but that is not its purpose.
>>
>>1039808

This right here.

If you don't have a quart or two of pharma grade 100% mineral oil around your house, you are not allowed to post in /diy/.

Every door hinge in my house, every lock. Great for soaking into cuttingboards and wooden spoons ... it will not go rancid and it's medical/food grade safe. I use almost nothing else for any lubrication need ... it's very, very rare that something else is required for some specialty use. Big bonus: entirely odorless, so you don't have to huff any petrochemical stink from anything else.

If you need to penetrate something like a rusted shut whatever, heat up the item you are attacking and heat your 100% mineral oil to about the boiling point of water (it will tolerate more, but there's no reason to unless you need to damage something or burn yourself with hot oil).

Honestly, in about the last ten years the only other oils I've used (apart from cooking) are bar & chain oil for the chainsaw and whatever my car or tractor requires. I guess it doesn't replace axle grease, either ... which could be an alternate for your window needs if you can apply it so that it doesn't get on everything else.

While WD40 or Silicon spray would be my go to for a quick fix, for something long lasting and water resilient, vaseline if you don't have copper slick grease or bearing grease.
>>
>>1039834
>pharma grade 100% mineral oil
I'm not too sure what you mean with that. I mean, the stuff pharmacies sell here is principally meant to make shit move. It is very thin oil and pretty bad stuff for lubrication - worse than cooking oil. Well, at least it won't dry.
>>
>>1039844
>worse than cooking oil
cooking oil goes rancid
>>
>>1039838
vaseline melts and drains completely away when heated
>>
>>1039851
Yeah, that's what I meant with drying.
The point remains, the stuff they sell here sucks at lubricating. Maybe US (?) "pharma grade 100% mineral oil" is something else?
>>
>>1039857
It's still going to last a lot longer than WD40 or Silicon spray.

It won't simply 'run away', it will melt and pool if it were to get hot enough to melt at all.

It definitely won't evaporate. I've got a massive jar of it in my garage as it comes in for all sorts of applications. Hasn't had the lid on for years.

And I did say that's if you don't have copper slick or bearing grease.

But what ever. Personally I'd be replacing the windows. Those things look like they were recovered from the Ark.
>>
>>1039706
Lithium grease or ptfe spray.
>>
>>1039699
SuperLube. Expensive but comes in very handy.
>>
>>1039703
Youre and idiot.
>>
>>1039699
I use the same silicone lube for sex and de-squeaking hinges, windows etc. A few dabs will do ya. Don't use too much of it on untreated wood or porous surfaces, it can stain certain materials in an unsightly way.

Inside of a window slide should be okay.

Best thing to use is teflon powder (pic related)

It has no smell, it will not run or harden over time, it will not destroy wood or plastics, it will not destroy paint or other finishes, it will not stain clothes or skin, and it is non-toxic to kids and pets.

And finally--it has the lowest friction of any lubricant you can practically obtain.

It's not perfect for everything but for most household stuff it works best.
