Any HVACfags around here?
I need my evaporator changed (leaking).
What should I expect to pay (parts, labor, freon recharge)?
What advice can you give me regarding choosing a company, asking questions, looking them while they work, source for parts etc etc?
Thanks in advance!
get more than 1 quote.. ideally at least 3.. the cheapest one is gonna screw you somewhere in materials or shortcuts.. the most expensive is just gonna screw you.. go with the middle one.. don't be afraid of calling around and asking a few different places telling them company x quoted me x dollars for this, and asking them what they'd charge.
Here's a DIY suggestion, DIY. This is about doing it yourself not hiring someone to do a proper job.
Assuming an r22 system and it was installed with shutoffs on the condenser so they can save what gas you have in the condenser while replacing the coil, maybe $600. If they can't save your gas $1000. If your coil is hard to get out >$1300. Coils run around $300 bucks. Gas is around $100/lb. Labor depends on where you live.

To be honest, I thought about that.
Most other things I can do (and I did) myself including electrics, walls, nat gas lines, water etc etc.
But now I'm kind of pressed by time and I have to fix it quick (I can't afford trial and error like I did with the rest)

The system is R410A and it's almost empty (not much to save)

I contacted two guys (they're coming tonight to look at it and give me a quote), I'll call one or two more but from what I've seen, the price range is not that big (all the prices are between 1000 and 1500).
Thanks for the advice!
