The other one on the opposite side has also broken. They carry part of the weight when one puts weight on the side handles of the chair or when leaning back hence they had a lot of strain.

I realize any half arsed duct-tape solution and the like will not work since those carry a lot of stress. It would need a structural strength that can hold an adult's movements.

I've only thought of literally burning the separated ends into place and whatever happens but I don't know if there is a good alternative without any special equipment.

Put a steel plate with a couple of bolts on each side of the crack.

Or trash it.
