I think he was getting at was the finish on the top and legs isn't consistent. I'd plane the other sides of those badboys and poly or varnish like you did the top and it'd be perfect. The wedge joinery also looks disproportionately small just to nitpick but I think all exposed surfaces should have the same glossy finish imho.
>>
>>1015852
How did you join the leg with the top plate?
>>
>>1016493
Ah i see, i tried varnishing the legs(a test piece that is) but this stuff is like a sponge, i lose all my varnish within seconds and the leg would turn very very dark for some reason..

I made some simple temporary steps for an outbuilding a week or so ago.

I dug out a hole wider on all sides than the steps and 2 shovel blades deep (the ground is solid compacted clay at that depth). I filled the hole with small layers of gravel and used the end of one of the blocks to tamp the layer very well. I repeated this until the hole was as full as needed. then I placed the blocks on it and filled around them with gravel and tamped again.

The entire thing cost about $18 in gravel, the block was used and free. It feels as solid as a block wall even though no concrete or mortar was used. After a week of rains it doesn't appear to have shifted at all.

Hi guys,

So i'm going to need some legal advice here about selling those masks.

I have posted my masks on facebook and since then they have become very wanted i guess.

A carpenter i know( ex brother in law) wants to sell them for me on etsy and his own website for 120 each.

How do i not get sued doing this?
should i contact Sierra/ naughty dog if this is even possible or are there ways around this problem?

>>
>>1018338

Hell no

just set up an LLC. That way they can't sue you for everything you own.
>>
>>1018437
Not me, brah. I'm the guy who originally asked if you sell on etsy.

As for selling on etsy, I'm not a lawyer, but the proverb "it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission" is the truest thing in starting a business.

I know /diy/ has a huge contingent of union 'do everything to code with permits' dudes who'll disagree, but if you jump through every stupid hoop the government/lawyers set up for you, you'll never be able to just start making money.
>>
>>1018840
I should add. Under no circumstances should you advertise your masks as 'from' or 'as seen in' anything protected by ip laws. There's a difference between selling art that may or may not incidentally bear a passing resemblance to something somewhere, and going out of your way to piss of multinationals.
>>
>>1018841
Allright thanks a lot for the info man!
A carpenter i know has taken interest in my masks and he wants to sell them for me on his etsy and website!
Things are looking good.
>>
>>1018913

He's trying to screw you over. Make your own etsy and website. He's hedging his bets for if and when shit gets rolling so that he can outright start to manufacture his own tiki masks when a market appears. If not, no loss since you're still doing all the manufacturing. You then have no distribution channel and he's already established for selling "your" design.
>>
>>1018913
What materials does it take to make one of those? Thinking about making one myself since it seems simple enough.
>>
>>1018923
Well, i see why you think that, but it is my brother in law.
I highly doubt he will go through all this trouble for ripping me off, but i do need my own contacts so i guess you are right.
might be better if he justs posts a link to my website.

>>1019033
i use Douglas for the mask itself, use a steel brush on a drill to get all the soft wood out if the mask, which leaves those lines.
Coat it with wood tar.

for the everything but the nose, i used some red cedar i had lying around, the nose is pinewood.
model everything on a bandsander, and paint it with spraypaint.
then give everything a coat with woodtar and wipe it off to get that aged look.

slap some glue on there and done.

I would love to see your result! please post it when you are done:)
If you have any questions or need a better explanation feel free to ask.

Aside from a bit of polishing, my big skinning knife is pretty much done. Which is good because its fought me every step of the damn way and kinda sick of working on it.
Handle is Gabon Ebony, Tiger Myrtle and Eucalypt burl, mixed in with some F4 and brass inlay, bolsters, the fittings are 304SS. Blade is 5x layers of 1095 and 5 layers of 15N20, tempered to about 59-60R, so its a fairly 'hard' bit of metal.

I did the front guard extensions to help with the slicing, mostly the pinch-grip on the spine which I use a lot when preparing game and skinning, plus added a sub-hilt around the forefinger which will reduce the chance greatly of hand slipping when the knife is all covered in blood and shit. As much as it was a pain in the arse to make, actually very happy with how it feels in the hand.

Restrung my curtains so that the pulley is now onto the opposite side. The carrier had fucking tiny holes and was riveted onto the track, so I couldn't do anything about that. Yes, that's basically how they normaly work - dish reflects satelite signal to the reciver at the end of the metal rod in front of the dish. If you leave the rod, you woldn't need to find focal point with stick like in the pic, because it should me more or less where reciver is.

The legs needed to be more delicate to offset the solid slab of top, I've made a (very poor) drawing in MSpaint of a leg pattern that with a curved stretcher might have looked a little better.
>>

sadly the rod of my dish was incomplete so I still do not know where the focal point is. but even without having found the right angle/focal point the mirror easily burns wood. how could I find the focal point? it's an offset feed mirror

Maybe you can find it by measuring the temperature. Focal point would be the hottest spot, isn't it?

I'm almost done with this bitch.

This is the first one I've made. I'm thinking about making a few more to sell / trade on Craigslist
>>
>>1021611
Also, everything minus the top is made from old pallets.

this is the first time I've made anything resembling a cabinet. Next one I make I think I'll use a thickness planer on the planks instead of using a joiner to get the thickness uniform. And the on the top I had some issues do the the wood splitting where I cut the hole even though I put a rail in the bottom so in thinking I should use a biscuit joiner for the top. Instead of just glue. I tried to fix the split using dowels but I didn't have the right tools.

Regardless, it was a fun learning experience. Any carpentry tips appreciated
>>
>>1021616

Tip #1: Don't make your grills out of wood. Da fuck are you thinking?
>>
>>1021633
>Woah didn't think of that.
There is a 3/4 inch gap all the way around the grill and the bolts I used to mount it have a ceramic coating on them and ceramic bushings.

Im gonna cook a few times on it before I make another to see if I need some sort of heat resistant paint in the hole and 2 inches around it.
>>
>>1021638

The issue isn't even radiant heat, it's burning embers exiting the grill and setting your workpiece on fire, unless you live in the land of no wind. Also, food safe wood treatments are flammable as fuck, you snarky idiot.
>>
>>1021633
>Da fuck are you thinking?

Pallet furniture
>>
>>1021643
>The issue isn't even radiant heat,

Dont downplay the heat issue, its very much a problem too

But yeah, porches burn down every single year because air carries off a small ember of charcoal and it smolders till it catches on fire.

This is on treated porches and shit.
Its an ok looking piece, but to put a grill in it is retarded
>>
>>1021643
Lol @ calling me the snarky idiot.

If a tiny ember blows out of the grill and lights it on fire in the 30 seconds it takes to run inside and grab a plate, I'll suck your dick. I'm not preparing good on the wood. It doesn't have to be "food safe."

I'm cooking dinner, not burning brush.
>summer

>>1021644
Pallet furniture is what the dumbasses want where I live. That's the selling point. It could be dimensional lumber for all I give a fuck. But when these people search "pallets" on craigslist, they will see my grill.

>>1021645
350 million people in the US, at least a few of them are dumb enough to light the grill then go to the store for beer while the coals heat up and end up burning their house down. Hell some of them even try to cook with charcoal inside.
>>
>>1021638
Air gap should be ok on the thermal side of things, from a safety perspective you might also consider something like aluminium sheeting on the inside areas which might allow coal or ember to rest somewhere.

I've often used 1msq x 2mm sheets that are about $5-10 for various odds and sods in the past. Plus if you really want it as a load bearing section you can crease the panel and it'll both harden and give it a fair bit of structure- paint it with some exhaust paint and might be worth considering as a weather shield to go over the top of the table area. Little bit more work, but I reckon it'd add to it.
>>
>>1021668

you're literally pants-on-head retarded purposely selling dangerous products made of shit materials to ignorant hippes. So quit trying to justify and accept you're a shitty person selling shitty/dangerous products with mah ceramics with no brain cells.
Go in a store and look at the grills. All sheet metal, not wood. And they cost like 100-200$ bux brand new. And they won't burst into flames or set your house on fire. Your stupidity and arrogance will injure and/or kill people. Asshole.
>>
>>1021680
I guess we should stop building anything from wood in that case. Maybe we should ban asprin, as it does kill thousands every year. Maybe we should ban cars too. I highly doubt this thing is going to burst into flames man. You are thinking about it waaay too hard.

The ceramics only purpose is to minimize heat transfer where the bolts meet the wood.

I'll slap a don't leave grill unattended warning right on top when I finish yours.

>>1021675
I kinda was going for a butcher block top look and I thought about some sort of collar to sit in there. I just feel like that would get pricey, and seeing as im not selling this one, I'll see how she cooks and make any changes from there.
>>
>>1021690
Your retarded, you don't make a cooking surface out of flammable material, that's like kindergarten level shit man.
>>
>>1021668
>>1021690
Fires don't happen because people leave their grills unattended.
Charcoal can smolder for hours, even small pieces that were taken in the wind.

The grill can be snuffed out, you have eaten dinner and relaxing inside before the fire even starts.

I say tens of hours cause it looks like junk, that many uneven joints look like crooked, running the top 4x4s shortways, and that's aside from the whole thing being a fire hazard, you could've at least put a fireproof coating on the wood, I mean my god. the
>>
>>1021709
>I kinda want to build another and fill it with tanerite just so I can post a video of it blowing up on this board.

Im not exactly sure what kind of response you are fishing for with this comment.

Just because you like your project doesnt mean it was a well thought out idea.
Its a fire hazard, its exactly like using your charcoal grill on a wooden porch.

Sure you may never have a problem with it, but an ember an catch wind and it can catch fire.

Fire retardant wooden porches still catch fire every summer when people grill on them. Being retardant just means it doesnt blaze and take your house down with it.

Spray it down with a hose when you are done using it, and I would never try and sell it to someone when you might be held liable

>TFW there's literally hundreds if not thousands of these Weber grill tables online and not a single reported fire.

Mine sits on a table almost identical to his, on a wood deck, attached to my house. Zero problems going on 4 years.
>>
>>1021717
Can you do to order stuff on etsy? That seems like a better model, pistol grips or gunstocks or tabletops, dunno if it'd still though. I had a friend ask me if I'd do it to his pool cue, so maybe that's a thing.
>>
>>1021716
>So a metal grill is only a little safer then

How exactly did you get that out of my post?
Charcoal grills burn down porches all the time, its a big no-no.
It comes from smoldering embers.

Its a bad idea to have the grill on the porch. To then put the grill into a wooden table just adds to the chance of a fire.
So yes, if you are grilling on your wooden porch like a retard, a metal table is only marginally safer.

I was under the impression you werent being stupid and grilling on the porch. Because if you were grilling in the grass or on a patio, your wooden table is a fire hazard while the metal one would not be.

>>1021718
Please dont samefag.

Just because you have a small scope of anecdotal evidence, doesnt mean what I say is untrue.
Just because other people built them doesnt mean they are safe.

Use some critical thinking skills. Its made of pallets for gods sake, its not like you invested a lot of time or money into it
>>
>>1021722
Sorry not samefagging.

>>1021718
Is not me

I guess thousands of people nation wide having the same rate of fires is anecdotal evidence. Use some critical thinking skills man.

Its made of the planks off of pallets, Then I used a joiner to take off the old wood, Then I sanded it. Then I stained it. And im sealing it this weekend.

I'm also assuming of a person is going to pay for a nice Webber and then more for the table, they are a seasoned griller. Pun intended. And have the sense to not burn down their house

>>
>>1021724
The mental gymnastics in this post are palpable

>inferring that your arbitrary number of "thousands" of people have built these and "none" have had a fire
Pulled straight out of your ass.
Its a great thing you can look up and see there were nearly 10,000 fires last year that all caused serious damage. And those are only the reported ones for insurance purposes, who knows how many more happened that didnt go to insurance.
The reportings do not confirm nor deny what the actual causes were, so you have no idea whether any of your "thousands" burnt up or not.

>I'm also assuming of a person is going to pay for a nice Webber and then more for the table, they are a seasoned griller.

This is not a bad assumption, Weber makes a really nice table with a charcoal holder, propane starter, and digital thermometer built in.

>And have the sense to not burn down their house
This is also a good assumption.

The problem for you lies in the fact that it IS a fire hazard, and it IS shittier than a weber table.

(Sorry for terrible quality picture).
Just got this fired up today. Any ideas for things I should change/do differently?

I've got it hooked up to a rather large air compressor/tank from my shop and it can pump out some serious air pressure if I open it right up.

I've got a few things I need to do first until it's usable like attach the wheels and add bracing for the legs.

I was thing about extending the flow valve lever from under the table through a cutout so I can adjust from the top.

top quality there bro. but as for selling them i think theres a chance youre going to run into trouble getting people to buy them.

on the one hand, theyre well made, original, interesting pieces, so MAYBE it will appeal to the a general audience. >>
>>1022612

I've have a decent delta table saw, but it doesn't have a finishing blade on it and the fence on it doesnt hold true square when I use it. I also have a 10" dual bevel sliding miter saw. At the least, only the ends will be square. I have access to a friends joiner that I plan to run 2 perpendicular sides of a board on to square them, then use a thickness planer to take the other two sides down square to the ones from the joiner to a specific thickness.

Not sure if this is overkill or even protocol, but I'm gonna see how that works.
>>
>>1022611
It cost like $100 to make, 30 for the blanket, 15 for the torch itself, and like 65 for the hose and fittings and adjustable regulator.
Pro tip: if you have a welder use steel for the gas nozzle instead of brass or copper, that way you can just weld the nozzle in place instead of having to do set screws or run the whole pipe through the flare end like you see online

>>
>>1023984
You do this for metalcasting. Turning them into ingots helps for materials storage. Then when you need to replace a parts, make tool handles, make art pieces, make a specialty part, etc you can sandcast what you need in a jify.

It isn't intended for you to make ingots to sell to a recycling center for money. At least not for something like aluminum.
>>
>>1023984
not really, you actually lose money melting cans and shit because some of the weight is lost to oxidation and dross, plus the time of melting and cost of coal/propane/electricity. i do it pretty much for shits and giggles over the fact that any schmuck like me can melt metals at over 2000* so easily. plus like >>1023994 said for casting

Thanks man!

Ill try to explain.

First i take red spraypaint and spray it from far away so it wont get too wet until it is fully collored red.
When dry i take an orange spraypaint and do the same thing but not fully covered,
I actually dont even know what im doing at this point but i spray until it looks cool.

I let that dry for 20 minutes and after that i take a rag with Wood Tar, rub that shit over the nose and presto

I will make a webm on how to make those mask since everyone seems excited about them.
I think ill have one made tomorrow

Pics of setup anon? Heres mine. Kwickie burner. 3 foot tall 18" diameter pipe. 6 inch inner. 2 foot tall 4 inch diameter pipe crucibles. Working on a much larger version. Told my buddy i was going to drop off a 40,000 pound aluminum peen behind his car and litterally cockblock him half way accross the country. I have a cdl and a friend nearby has access to a crane. I for sure am posting it on b. Im up to about 5 tons of aluminum strap. 35 more to go!

>old push mower
>old electric wheelchar low geared motor assembly
>2 12v 35ah sealed lead batteries
>saber motor controller 32amp >a110? I think reciever
>spekttum dx6i transmitter
>john deere mower seat

Works okay i guess. Needs a wifi camera that doesnt use 2.4ghz so i can mow from my couch. Mower cant keep up tho. Too slow and dies a lot.

Building a 48" all electric drive mower dec soon. Then in tall grass it bogs down or blows a breaker instead of dying ever 1/4 of a fucking second...

Its for sale or trade in SE Kansas if anyone is interested?

Got other projects in the way and want this dangerous contraption out of my garage.

I recently finished the bricks for my forge setup. I made moulds so I can reproduce the bricks and I make them out of a 50/50 mix of PoP and perlite.
Sand will pop like any rock will under intense heat.

With the PoP/Perlite mix it still crumbles like you say but not quickly at all. Cheaply duplicated so w/e. One thing I would do differently is crushing the perlite up smaller so it can transfer heat more evenly and deteriorate slower (theory).

Me and my mate built this anvil stand today. I'm a metalworker by trade and dislike working with wood but thought it would look cool and I guess it does. Have a bit more work to do with it like add gripping chains to hold the anvil in place and maybe a set of wheels on one side to tilt and wheel it around.

Opinions / tips?
>>
>>1030336

why waste all the milled wood when you can just use a solid tree stump which would have more mass and perform better?
>>
>>1030344
Just wanted to make my own I guess. Had a fun time making it with my friend and it looks cleaner than a stump.
>>
>>1030346

Looks like a fucked up game of jenga. I woulda made it pyramid shaped for stability and bolt it to a heavy base (bolt it to some 1/2" plate or something) to make it sturdy as fuck so it can be beat on without any danger of it tipping over
>>
>>1030349
Thanks for the kind words..
I'd guess it weighs around the same as the anvil and you'd have to be using a sledge hammer to come close to knocking it over.

It barely budges when I work on the anvil so it does it's job.

Also, How does it look like a fucked up game of jenga? Looks like a nicely organised start to a game of jenga.

>>

There was an article in eetimes that showed how such a thing is made. The frame is made of .8mm steel rods on the 16cube, so it was awful to solder. The 8cube was made with tinned copper rods, which wasn't doable for the 16 since it's too soft...
