I get that too and it ruins a lot of it for me. But for synth voices once I got past how offputting some of them are, the consistency actually made this problem a little better. There's the other cliche eye effects, like kaa eyes or heart eyes. You could add dialogue that makes them sound dazed and out of it. You could have the actual hypnotist on the image.

A hypnotized person irl doesn't look all that different. So in a drawing without multiple panels you've got to depend on the popular tropes to get the idea across instead.
