Atleast when it comes to Starcrossing, neither NAC nor I would be happy if their art ever got that stale and samefacey. It's something one of us brings up from time to time, mostly them. So it's definitely acknowledged. Starcrossing is like the fast-food of Eka's artists; marketable, but a lotta wasted potential mixed with average. Never noticed with SaintxTail but, I'm definitely not willing to check out their works either.

Indeed I am, funny that I got here because I realized I was drawing faces based on incorrect guidelines. Since then I've decided to jump out between every 2-4 pictures and practice faces(and maybe hands) a bit to keep the possibilities and anatomy fresh in my mind, at least until I become comfortable with them.
Also gotta work on backgrounds, there's so much potential in each picture that can be brought out with a good background, but I'm far away from there right now.

Totally agree with this being a better platform for honest criticism than Eka's. The circle-jerking, ass-kissing, and hugboxing that goes on there is downright pathetic, it's even started to affect who NAC and I respond to on pictures.

Criticism is one step from being taboo on Ekas, something that felt nice back when my ego was shaky(at one point even fragile), but now since I've grown up a little and am prepared to take the hits for the sake of my own growth it's becoming more of an annoyance.

He goes for a cheap soft shaded style that I don't think plays off his cartoon/anime aesthetic very well. If he used soft shading with more definition to the forms it would come off as more appealing.
Then he finishes off by overloading his girls with shine, a simple trick that does give girls an alluring wet feel, but since he uses pure white his girls start looking like plastic. Solving that issue is as simple as turning down the opacity, the shading issue requires more time/effort or switching over the cell shading which could probably still work pretty well for him.

I never thought about it, but I think you have a point. I always enjoyed his sketches and less finished looking stuff more. The soft shading is okay, but the over use of highlights/shine is currently kinda weird looking. If it was just more transparent or a similar color to the girls he draws skin. Who knows, maybe he has a thing for girls looking wet at all times or plasticy. I think artists and creators of any kind should strive to make things they want to see because the fact that it's a personal desire and holds meaning to them gives them a greater motivation to do their best.
