Building on this, assuming you're listening to an audio recording you can just listen to it normally once, so you know what's in it. At that point there's no need to have any doubts because you know what suggestions you'll receive. Nothing's more trustworthy than a recording.

Additionally, I find you have to "try" to make some of the suggestions work sometimes, by either imagining them working or just focusing on the body part they're supposed to effect. Some people just assume they can put on a hypnosis track and zone out, and they spend the whole time thinking about something else and it's pointless. I'm a guy who almost exclusively enjoys femdom hypnosis stuff (on the gentle side) - maledom is usually petty, mean, and not very interesting at all. However, I can appreciate maledom hypnosis as long as the protagonist isn't some variation of a complete dickwad, which is what most maledom hypnosis stories are. Either they're misogynistic shut-ins with no moral compass, fat/ugly/old guys, ultra-smug omnipotent sadists, or all of the above. I don't personally enjoy any of that.

What makes a good maledom hypnosis protagonist to me is if the guy's life is boring or just shit. Give me a regular guy who basically tries to be a good person, but has a terrible job or a terrible school life or some other sort of oppressive hardship. That way, the acquisition of power feels like an equalizer. Now, this aspect is what a lot of maledom stories get right, but they miss out on my next requirement: when he does finally achieve the ability to hypnotize people, he has some actual moral qualms about it instead of just running wild and making Thomas Hobbes give a thumbs-up from beyond the grave. And it would be even better if the author could write the hypnosis in a way that doesn't just make it rape with fancy wallpaper.

I think what I just described sort of negates the aspects of hypnosis that most people find erotic; male hypnofetishists tend to enjoy the morality free power/revenge fantasy, and female hypnofetishists tend to enjoy the idea of being completely degraded and mindbroken as hard as possible. Personally, I find that power dynamic completely boring, and I can't get invested in a situation where one party is a terrible person and the other party is a lifeless automaton, much less get turned on by it. I don't know, maybe that makes me some kind of fag, but that's how I feel.
