I recently started drawfagging (made a couple deliveries here and on /h/) to practice drawing, but I feel like it takes up way too long for me even if I only do a lineart without shading or coloring to save time.

While I'm nowhere near your skill level, what would be a "normal" amount of time to spend on lineart?

Any advice for "getting faster" when it comes to frawing?

Uhhh.... jeez. I don't know. I tend to take WAY too long on drawings, but sometimes I intentionally try to move a bit faster, and this is what seems to work for me:

Start with really small thumbnails and a thicker brush. Don't fall into the trap of drawing details this early. You want fast results, you should only be considering silhouette and pose. Use long strokes.

Once you have a thumbnail you're happy with, I usually just scale it up to a huge size and set it to like 20% opacity as a guide. Then I'll do a REALLY fast few gesture lines and some boxes to indicate chest/hip proportion. Sketch in anatomy shapes and a first-pass at details (face, etc.), then make a new layer over top and go straight to "final" lineart. Try to use different lineart layers for distinct parts of the subject's anatomy, especially anywhere you might have overlapping forms. That makes it WAY easier to erase/mask out lines that shouldn't be visible.

The best advice I can give is that practice will naturally make you faster. Draw every day, even for 5 minutes. You'll also spend less time re-drawing stuff from scratch if you decide on your pose and get the basic shapes/proportions done really early.

But seriously, don't listen to me. I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

Usually I start directly at A4 300pi, drawing a rough sketch with a large brush (prevents me from doing detail work early), then I do the final lineart with a smaller brush on another layer. Sometimes I add intermediate layers of boxes and anatomy guides if I didn't do them during the sketch phase. The delivery png is scalled down to 40~60% to reduce file size and smooth over small imperfections (there is little loss in visual quality from experience).

I've no idea if I'm doing things in a sorta right way or completely off the wall, so thank you again.

Yeah, in that case I'd say you're doing everything right - it's just a matter of cranking them out. It sounds like maybe you're paying too much attention to exact DPI and scaling ratios - IMO that stuff is just a distraction. Try to go with what looks/feels right instead of approaching it mathematically.

The DPI and scaling ratios are eyeballed. I chose 300 at random from a default canvas and stuck with it because it gave me a satisfactory amount of detail. The scaling was to avoid oversized images and, as stated earlier, hide smaller mistakes. The idea being that the scaled down version is the way it's meant to be seen, while the base files are a size apropiate for drawing. So yeah, it's very much built on feeling.

Depends on the drawing, but anything from 30 mins to 2.5 hours is pretty normal.

What you can do is practice drawing well and with great care for the details, but compromising the speed.
Then also practice drawing quickly, while compromising from the quality.

Repeat this back and forth, back and forth. Ideally multiple times a day/week.
Little by little you try to combine the two, and learn to pick speed/quality ratios that you need or want to try out.

Eventually you should be able to draw fast and well.

Maybe on getting ideas for personal works? I use requests as practice because I'm just terrible at coming up with ideas. And if I do come up with one I end up second guessing myself into dropping it and doing something else.
