I think it's because a lot of these girls have low self esteem, so when they discover that there's a whole community that loves their bodytype they hop on that as a way of coping.

I actually read a research paper on fat/feeder/weight gain fetishes a few days ago. It went in to really good detail about how those fetishes seem to be just exaggerated versions of normal human mating behavior. It gave some really good examples about how many aspects of it are present in normal romance.

There's more out there though. More recent studies especially do a good job of delving into the topic without crazy biases and assumption like other discussions of topic outside of the community.

That paper doesn't cover everything but I read a lot that day so I can't remember the name of everything I looked at off the top of my head. I started off with reading what I could find of Feederism: Eating, Weight Gain, and Sexual Pleasure by Kathy Charles and Michael Palkowski (it's probably one of the best books on the topic) and that pretty much spiraled me into a bunch of searches for academic papers.

There is a lot of really interesting stuff you wouldn't think about until it's pointed out like:

>"Orgasmic" being used in a non-directly sexual context almost always refers to the taste of food
>Frequently made sexual food analogies like "delicious" or "tasty" being synonymous with being good looking
>Courtship almost always involves male to female food provision (in the West men pay for dates which almost always consist of a meal)
>Weight gain is a sign of being happy and comfortable in a relationship e.g. "Love Pounds" or "Love Weight"

I can try to find more papers and articles if anyone is interested. I just think it's fascinating because I've been viewing my "fetish" and lot differently since I've actually started looking into it.

The point isn't that those things I listed 100% prove everyone is an unawakened feeder/feedee of something. They were just interesting things that stare us in the face everyday that might not just be arbitrary.Read that actual paper and look into related studies if you haven't already and you'll see it goes way deeper into cross cultural behavior and also behavior of species closely related to humans. The point is just to show there is an intrinsic food provision/romance/sex connections (however loose) in humans and their relatives, so it's not a huge stretch to think that's a large element in feederism.

Paraphilic behavior in general is done a disservice academically. If any sexual behavior is categorized as deviant it's automatically chalked up to childhood sexual trauma, some third-party unrelated Freudian desire, and/or wanting to fuck your mommy/daddy. The thing is though when you have entire cultures that engage in feederism like behavior of various degrees to the point where some have straight up fattening camps for women it hard to just lump it in the same conceptual category as being sexually attracted to clowns.

The whole "feederism is just BDSM" thing where a feeder is just a dom and a feedee is just a sub is really a common outlook from psychologists. The issue is that not only aren't all feeders playing dominant roles, there are also many people that don't get off to feederism because of power dynamics at all. In fact many people like me actually get off to the more nurturing/intimate/enabling aspects of feederism. When you have a bunch of people in the community that don't fit your framework, obviously it can't be the core of the desire. In addition, even if it was just a BDSM thing it begs the questions of why so many people express those desires in fattening or being fattened instead of chains and whips.

What I really like about the exaggerating mating behavior hypothesis is that it actually addresses the core of feederism related desires directly.

I think only Chou Chou has a decent role in her repesctive anime, but I wouldn't know for sure because I've only watched Galko Chan and Valkyrie Drive. There are fat women in manga that are main characters, though. The manga Pochamani, Elf San Wa Yaserasenai, Metsuko Ni Yoroshiku, Pocha Pocha Swimming Club, Miracle Dieter Miyuki, The Clothing Called Fat, and Fat Cinderella all have fat girls as main characters. However, most of those girls are either chubby or just barely chubby. And almost all of them feature some kind of weight angst, the girls trying to go on a diet, or people being to the dick to the MC for being fat. The Clothing Called Fat in particular is unpleasant in tone from start to finish. Elf San is a pretty light hearted ecchi manga, though.

There's also the characters Super Pochaco and Super Taruco, but those are fetish mascot characters that don't belong to an anime or manga.
