For the past year, I have been starting and stopping various game ideas. They always end up either unenjoyable or unfappable. But each attempt does advance my proficiency in $language, and I can apply that to other projects I contribute to.

They're all text based, written in Java or Twine depending on their actual need.

One was similar to Night Games, but expanded the scope a bit. I never made a design document for it, so the 'who, what, where, when, and why' wasn't established. But the premise was that you and about 20 other people within an age range selected by the player are abducted and sent to an isolated island. Because this is an H game, the natural course of action from here is that the characters try to establish dominance by raping others. It would use similar sex-fight mechanics as Night Games. You could enslave other NPCs and form factions, or be enslaved yourself. It was more of an RPG where you can walk around the island, talk to npcs, develop relationships, etc. I think it might have promise, so I haven't abandoned it, but it is on the back burner.

There was a CoC clone with less furry/futa and more humans. That hasn't gotten very far yet.

There were a few other games that have more plot details than actual gameplay.

One of my main hangups is that I prefer autistic levels of simulation. I give NPCs full birth dates (year, month, day), etc, and spend most of my time on genetics and the like. The end result ends up being something mildly interesting, but not fappable at all.

For anyone working on Twine games that use SugarCube 2, and want to move away from the godawful Twine 2 editor, I've created a bare template of the TweeGo + SugarCube 2 setup I used for FC.

The template includes everything needed to build games on Windows and Linux.

I'll keep it updated with the latest versions of both, and will add documentation eventually (tm), but feel free to use it if you're tired of dealing with Twine.

Yes. The Twine IDE has a tiny window for editing, no spellcheck, no undo, etc. This lets you use whatever editor you want.

But if you still want to throw some crap in a text file and have a working HTML game, the template lets you accomplish that without having to deal with Twine or learn an actual programming language. While performing crimes against loremasters I'd say more of sending a horde to capture a piddly 10 of 100 from an army, and getting your orcs, cow-girls and other monsters from the half-breeds which arise, all of them incapable at doing things other than fighting and raping. With the exception of cow-girls being able to convert raw food to more efficient milk because magic tits.

May as well post it: This feels more RTS than much else however, just broadly telling groups what they need to do and having a desertion rate. With that, you could either improve their intellect for less desertion, or research feminization chambers as only non-goblin women create half-breeds, or sex-crazed futanari to take things further and allow the female goblins that got roped in with your breed horde to birth the half-breeds instead of more goblins. Basically pile in fetish junk, but make it a separate path to cold hard power.

Finish your game's engine, but never release it and don't even bother writing content other than short stories on your own to gain familiarity. It can at least serve as a training session if you refine the system despite it's flaws. If you do write/release anyways, go elsewhere and acknowledge anons will be insulting you for it. So, this is concentrated autism mixed with delusional levels of optimism, but what if we (all ~5 of us) setup some sort of 'training' system?

Pick a powerful, but easy to learn language like Java (Yes, C/C++ is better, but good luck teaching that to people with no experience at all), organize textual courses, introductions to common relevant libraries, etc. Get people on track to learning how to code properly in general.

Then we have a /d/ section that goes over the numerous recurring problems with h games, discusses basic gamedev concepts, etc. And of course, how to make mundane things lewd.

I have no artistic experience, but if learning pixel art/animation doesn't take years, maybe work on a section for that too.

Just because it feels like there is no reason for the grind, and you could technically get 300$ a weekend just from basketball/chores, I've just been changing the -1 of the game's cost to give me 100 instead just so I can avoid the grind and sleeping through all the days. Even the car racing gambling through save-scumming is still frustrating to do.

I will meticulously grind once in a game just to experience the act of it. I'm not going to do it every single time I play through the same route or even just to reach new content from an update.

Anyone help real quick? Working with Sugarcube 2 in Twine. When I try to print the highlighted passage with "<<print $thug.attacks.slice.dmg>>" it outputs the expression instead of the result. Like "6 * 2" instead of "12".

Anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

I've tried putting one in and outside of the single quotes in different places. Putting it inside the quotes just adds the = to the expression so it looks like "6 * 2 =". Putting it in front of the quotes produces an error in the <<set>> command.

Enclosing in parenthesis again just adds to the expression. Replacing the quotes with parenthesis produces an error. What would you surround an expression in Sugarcube to create an interger? The documentation just shows raw math. In fact, the documentation shows says:
$x + 10 → Yields: 25 (assuming $x is 15); No side effects

When trying that (for instance like "dmg:'$thug.stats.srt * 2'", I still get the raw expression "6 *2"

What about no parenthesis or quotation marks? I don't know about JS, but my knowledge of other languages tells me that the quotes makes it a string.
Not sure why parenthesis would cause an issue, though. Parenthesis shouldn't do anything but force the order of operations, and this is just one operation, so they shouldn't change anything here.

I found the issue. First, the quotes do indeed create a string and not an operation. But more importantly, you can't reference properties of an object while creating said object at the same time. One must be created first, then the other. You could technically add to the first object if you wanted to keep it clean, but my half assed throw-together in pic related using two objects works as you expect.

I highly recommend SC's checkvars macro for debugging:

Toss it in a link in your ui-bar, and clicking it will show you every twinescript variable in your game; extremely useful to see how things are working behind the scenes.

Also, a side note:
TME (SC's dev) once stated that print macros are a bit performance heavy. I have never profiled them to find out how intensive they are, but you can combine multiple outputs using one print macro. I'm tired and the method escapes me, but something to keep in mind if you plan to make use of them frequently.

Only mildly. It lets people who don't know JS use JS. It also handles the formatting of the HTML/CSS so that you don't have to do it yourself.

It certainly has it's place if you don't actually need to write anything in a real language, but I only use it for rapid prototyping. Spit out a bunch of shit over the course of a day and see if your game is fun enough to invest the time doing it properly.

I find there's no need for save game shenanigans, the racing game is already biased in your favour. I think it's roughly 50/50 whether you win or lose - but if you're racing against three opponents, winning earns $60 but losing costs only $20. Once you have a bankroll sufficient to ride out a losing streak, you can easily profit by hustling boys at the arcade in this way.

And of course once you're enough of a slut you can get out of having to pay up your stake at all.

That's a string, dmg is set to that value literally. It just so happens that <<print>> in Twine will substitute any variables it find in the string that you are trying to print.

Given that you want to reference values (the stats) from the same object, you should either do two <<set>>, first setting $thug and then adding the attacks, i.e.
<<set $thug = { ... }>>
<<set $thug.attacks = { ... }>>
Or do some kind of evaluation before printing... I'd advise against that though.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing. If you look >>7243040 all the secondary stuff (like HP, THP, etc) all come from the $thug.stats. There's a followup group of <<set>> statements there too.

The idea is I want to make enemies sort of like modules that can be called upon at any time. With the exception of their descriptions and attacks, of I have 3 enemies that show up in an area, I want to be able to call any of those with the combat "AI" and have it function correctly with generic statements.

Did some work on my text-based breast-growth simulator. Something very loosely along the lines of cursed, starting with a highschool scenario but hope to port the basic "engine" (if anything programmed in Twine could be called that) into other scenarios. Mostly focusing on the effects of growth on clothes and personal mobility. I'm starting to work on things like hunger related to fueling the growth and lust that could cause unintentional exhibitionism. Just realized I should really include some mentions of huge hard nipples in public.

Ultimately I'd like to make a fantasy RPG with similar concerns, except the effects of huge and growing tits would affect equipment, combat efficacy, etc. But a contemporary life sim seems easier to flesh out the mechanics.

Cap2text works really well on this. I once made translated reference images for personal use, but that was when the original one came out. Aren't you using any kind of translator? I played the first game using chiitrans and it doesn't directly translate the columns but the game will tell you all about it once you click on them. I don't really care about the actual sex stuff, but you're missing out if you're only mashing your way through the game and ignoring all the flavor text.

Depending on what you want to accomplish, it would save you time by providing macros to accomplish very simple things, handling page layout, etc. Of course, if you want to design a completely custom UI and expect that the majority of your game will be pure JS, then no, Twine is a waste of your time.
