No one has any idea that this is what you do, hence avoiding Potion Wars' "spanking mentioned more than gold" problem.

Random encounters are normal monsters killed for XP and loot. Bosses all have some sort of trick or need a quest coupon to defeat them, fight them, or not just die.

I'm not sure how to balance that, but my hope is a megaman-style chain where you can start with any boss from the lower tiers, then progress further with the coupons you get.

Well, be careful how you decide to develop. Burnout is very real with these kinds of projects. If you find yourself forcing yourself to develop, dedicate very little time to development, but make sure you schedule to do it regularly. That way you'll have some progress to kickstart yourself and can go in guns blazing when your motivation returns instead of the project dying before then.

Also if you are lucky, you can find help if and ONLY if you make it easy to help. (Unless you are otherworldly kinds of lucky) Git is kinda awesome for this, but depending on what you choose for your actual development stack, you might be dooming yourself to working alone until you write tools that others can use and have fun with. Actually, this is fine if you want to work on a base without any pressure.

Also, updates are good, but make sure they aren't simply attention whoring: make them useful, and make them things that might get someone else like you to care. This thread tends to react pretty badly to ego stroking, and to updates that are just ideas, but not actual progress.

Sure, it'll be hard to get into again, but that's why you don't actually need to put much time into it each interval. Progress won't be super-fast, but at least it will be there.

Because December is always hectic for me, I've taken a little more than a month break from my game too--so I was planning on doing this in a week or so as well.

It's a tricky game when you need to get so far before even mentioning the things you are working on, so everything you can do to help yourself get to that point is doing yourself a favor.

Because I know I can write/code something that will satisfy me, but I'm not confident it can please other peoples.
