Torque is just how hard it is to stop the motor. You can think of it like mass in the equation for velocity. Having less force than you need will make a motor that will stop when encountered by the wild anus. The only thing adding more force will do is decrease the number of things that could stop it.

The bigger issue comes from the speed and stroke distance. Speed will quickly increase the wear from friction there and if the stroke is too long, it wouldn't be comfortable for sure.
Instead of risking having a weak and essentially useless motor, it makes much more sense to just advise careful use. Simply using a proper amount of lube, and testing stroke lengths at slow speeds will make everything easier.

A note, an engine rated at 35 lb-in torque can, generally, only put out the torque proportional to its power/speed. By this logic a 35 lb-in, 250 MAXrpm motor running at 100 rpm is only going to be outputting 14lb-in. Not to mention the hardware will be adding a few pounds to the load. You wouldn't think it makes a difference, but those ounces add up fast.
