The reason doing this fucks you up so much is because it's the liver's job to turn toxic stuff that the idiot human puts in its mouth (alcohol here) into less toxic stuff before it can get to the rest of the body. The liver usually does a pretty good job and only a small amount of the alcohol you drink makes it through. This small amount is what normally gets you drunk.

As you can see above, anything that's not between your lower esophagus and the first third of your rectum isn't covered by your liver. So, by pouring alcohol onto a permeable membrane like the lower two thirds of your rectum + anus, your vag, your eyes, etc., you can get most of the alcohol from the drink to go straight into you instead of just the small portion that would usually make it through your liver intact.

All this means you can reach stupid (read: deadly) blood alcohol concentrations using this method from next to no drink at all.

Because by default mammalian cells are encased in simple bilipid layers, which are semi-permeable barriers. Liquids especially have an easy time being absorbed through the process of osmosis. This is just the default state of things. Larger molecules cannot easily pass through, so it isn't much of a health risk. If you really wanted your rectum to be completely impermeable, it would need some sort of interior lining, like a waxy coating or something, and we just haven't had an evolutionary pressure for something like that.

As was mentioned previously, you can indeed absorb alcohol through tons of different areas of your body with similar effects. Eyes, vagina, etc. Wounds would certainly work- Being drunk is all about blood alcohol content, and wounds could allow the alcohol to almost directly enter bloodstream (of course using a needle to straight up inject it would be the most direct route). As you can imagine, and as has already been covered, this would all be extremely dangerous if not outright suicidal.

The wound method is messy in more ways than one- not only do you have blood streaming out, but the blood will also clot after long enough.
