What I say is that the typical way they write the story is like you're in a rushed tour trip where the tourist guide brings you to every spot hastily, gives you a few minutes to enjoy the sites, and then forcefully kick you to the next one. For manga it's not too bad, looking around it seems like 1.5-2.5$ per page is a pretty common quote, less if you don't also do the editing.
For short stories it's much pricier. It's apparently not very common for commission translators to translate tons of bulk JP text, so it was hard to find a price listing for something like that. Though I could probably afford to look more, it seems like 1 cent per jp character is pretty much on the level. For the one I'm looking at, with 30 some comic pages and 10 novel pages would be about $280USD.

Overall I liked the Sanae/Tenshi story much more because it has more stuff happening including a plot more relevant during the course of the writing, and more details of the thoughts especially a lot of the thoughts of a broken Sanae. The Japanese love to write stories with lots of actions, and the Flandre story is the typical case which has too many actions it reads like "okay, something happened"x100 and I feel informed rather than touched. Heck, even this story has more details, like the mention of an H-shaped steel beam and how concrete cracks!

Of course, the writing still reads like an action-reaction description from time to time which I'd skimmed by instinct, but overall it's less painful than the Flandre one. I don't want to even bother with Torajimaneko's Koakuma story and such because without some good plot (which only Touhou stories has anyways), Japanese stories are really shitty, and a big drag to read.

However, like SDG, Onideka at least has the sense to show a lot of scenes of its giant girls doing cute giant girl things, and those chapters are better than the fight scenes by a mile. Maybe that's why SDG managed to go as long as it did. If SDG's enemies had been cute girls too, it might have been a little better.

What does anon think are some other common factors that demonstrably doom a giant girl manga to failure and/or mediocrity?

SDG was at its best when it wasn't about being a shounen action and it was a romantic comedy instead. That said, it looked like the series came to a natural conclusion rather than being cancelled.

Think what's dooming these series are three things:

You can't base a whole series around an ultraman parody, it gets stale really fast. Once UG introduced it's 3 girls at giant size the first time, it had used up all of its material. You need to expand on things more.

If in the fight scenes you could erase the background and you wouldn't know it's giant people fighting, you've failed.

They're not dealing with the fact that a giant girl is something that's pretty amazing nor the practicalities and implications of people being giant.

Onideka is strong on all three points. It gives the antagonists backstories, action is secondary to character interactions and it makes an effort to explore the reaction to having giant people turning up everywhere.

I'd like to see this manga get a serialization but I don't think it'll happen. Was cute and funny (even if the art isn't great again) .

It does. All we know for sure is that Hiroshimoot is going to make some changes. 4chan closing down altogether is the least likely scenario to come out of this, much less "by the end of this month" like the article declares out of thin air.
If the end result IS that some boards are going to get deleted, /d/ is not in immediate danger zone. Worst case scenario we'll merge with /h/ which wouldn't have any real impact on size threads since they're self-contained.

People just like to believe THE HAPPENING is HAPPENING because they're bored. Weird how that website which seems pro-GG by foundation doesn't care much for quality journalism though.

No one expects 4chan to actually close down. What people expect are for the major defining rules of the site to change, or for entire boards (perhaps this one) to be merged with others or removed entirely. If the core tenants of the site change, or a lot of the boards change, there will be a mass migration from the board. There are already a lot of people disenfranchised with the direction the new owner is taking the site, honestly if there was any other decent place to go, I would have been there years ago.
