Word is a pretty ugly format though, usually what I do is a text file with:
Page 1:

This way there is no ambiguity, and no need to come up with convoluted ways to refer to a bubble in some position, and you don't have to assume the typesetter will read the bubbles in the same order you did

As for referral to what's the original being translated, i'm doing:

You're also an idiot. Translation takes longer than typesetting which is why it's worth more credits. And GP is a tiny thing compared to the massive credits lost on some of the bigger bounties. To get a ton of GP you'd need to upload a ton of galleries from other websites - it's not worth it to make them - and then help run a few servers, and maybe play hentaiverse and donate real money to the site. Most of the bounties aren't even required to be uploaded by the bounty creator, even though with one click that would be a requirement for granting a claim. Still think it's about funny money?

Text can be represented in the computer in multiple ways, since in the end a file is just a pattern of bits. The way you decide to represent text is called an encoding. Unicode is a family of standard encodings that cover a wide set of characters, notably in this case including Japanese text. In notepad usually there is an option when you save a file (with the name-choosing dialog) to choose an encoding.

It's unlikely to take as long unless you absolutely could not get into photoshop, and were doing redraws. And it would take much longer if you don't actually double check it, or edit your translation to make it flow in English before you shit something out.
Your 30 page doujin in an hour probably had a few simple words, reads like Chinglish, and has countless typos and grammatical errors.

I'm not too familiar with the whole process but here is what I think:
There are two parts you might call editing. The first is before translation (or at least before typesetting), someone has to "clean" the raw, so it looks nice and not curved and filled with scanlines etc. Raws on sadpanda are usually already cleaned.
Then there's before/during/after typesetting, you need to make sure the manga still looks good with the text. If it is a high effort translation then someone might redraw the manga so that it can accomodate the translated text better (e.g. horizontal speech bubbles instead of vertical).
You might also have a separate translation checker (proofreader) and QA person, if it's a large enough team.

The translation of the tweets is a representation of the person's opinions. A bad translation here is neglect and will produce misunderstandings, which it did when F_TSF was memeing in the thread.
The second one was not as important, but the title was completely wrong in essence, it wasn't just a slight mistake. He also gave a very wrong summarization of the work. If he had actually read it and understood it then he would have not made such a large mistake. It wasn't a question of effort.

On the other hand, the real reason for which i'm replying is to ask a final question.
I'll be making sure to avoid broken English and incorrect translations, but sometimes i use the same phrasing twice or don't keep the same style of speech for the character. Am i supposed to be doing that, or will the typesetter take care of it? If i have to give the very exact words that will go into the doujin, then yeah, i think i'll leave it for today and keep at it for a couple more days. Ensure quality, you know?
Otherwise, basic is better. Keep it coherent and well-written, let the typesetter choose his own style.

You can't trust the typesetters for editing. I'm dead serious, they don't even get rid of periods at the end of sentences. Half of them are still learning English. The other half blindly trust the translator to know what he's doing and are afraid to make changes. So it has to be fairly decent to begin with, because if the original set of eyes can't make it nice and in line with the original, then what kind of slim chance is there that someone who hasn't seen the original can figure it out?
That's why saying translating a story takes the least time is a joke.

What else is a translator supposed to do with credits from translating bounties? The main point is probably to incentivize new translators, scanners and editorz to try their hand at scanlation, so if they like it and get a feel for the hobby there will eventually be many more translations.
That and to draw attention to promising tg projects because there is no time to do everything alone.

I will share another secret I accidentally stumbled onto while trolling that has improved some of my translations. Think about something you have read that was well composed when you are translating. Assuming it fits your character and the mood, copy the the style. (This is easier when the original had unique voices, or you're entering rewrite territory.) I guess for a gangster manga you could picture the slang from The Godfather.
I sometimes use the KJV bible or Shakespeare when I want to emulate 500+ year old characters speaking formal Japanese. I read a few pages and copy elegant sentence structurs, phrases and archaic words. The extra research makes it a hell of a lot more fun to translate, which is why old 稲荷様 are be the funnest characters to work with. It's the reason I didn't burn out of scanlation, because let's be real-most doujin authors don't bother with prose, (not even in fantasy!) They are usually artists first, rather than careful writers, and they go no further than stock gendering or rare pronouns for differentiating the voices of characters.
Beginners don't understand that an accurate translation is only the starting point - making it a pleasure to read in English requires you to become a better writer, which is a fun process in itself.

No, it just gives it flavor. Indeed, the translation could read better than a boring original if you took the time and were willing sacrifice a dry voice to tell a better story.

I personally find it to be the best "vanilla" doujin I have ever read it (if you disregard the genderbending for a second).
The whole scene flows very organically and is devoid of most hentai tropes that end up making it feel cheesy/samey.

Danbooru had a very active community translating these but last I read (some years ago) the author moved on to other fandoms and all the Kyonko stories have been translated.
Even the doujins that were selfpublished were all bought up by western fans and translated, unless he decided to change his mind and revisit the concept he pretty much is done with it
The last one he did was a Kyon from another dimension where all the characters where genderflipped drifting into the SagittariusTea-Kyonko's universe; pic related. Read it up for context, while it's hilarious on its own the greater context where it happens makes the blow even worse.

To be fair, I am willing to buy Kyon's argument that it was Haruhi's perception of him and Koizumi that ended up with him having tiny breasts (especially given that in that universe she also seems to be a bit of a Fujoshi and she'd put Koizumi as the top of a gay relationship with Kyon).

Good VR won't make you motion sick. Most games won't move you without you moving, which is where the motion sickness comes from. To get around that, the few games that require movement, you just point and teleport, so there's no actual 'motion'.
I have a Vive and the people I've demoed it to don't get motion sick at all. When I had the Oculus DK2, trying to play Half-Life 2 and moving with the controller would give motion sickness.

Gender change is demeaning because males and females have different values, and for a male, being female (and being treated as a female, and having to deal with female issues, and literally being a woman when you have been a man all your life) is bad. This isn't chauvinist because of the very simple reason that for a female, being a male is equally as bad. Different values, behaviors, social roles, treatment by other people.
Now, it's not as bad for some people. For example if you had an ambivalent gender identity before the swap, being female might not affect you too much. The way I heard it from one of my biology professors back in the day, theory was that it had to do with how the fetus develops. Since males require testosterone to properly differentiate neurologically from female fetuses, the idea is that it's more likely for this mechanism to fail in a male rather than by erroneously triggered in a female. Thus leading to "female brain in male body".

Things are finally looking up for me. I sorta like how I look like now (the nasty electrolysis scabbing and PIH is a killer tho, gonna take a little while longer for genocide to complete), I'm happier overall, I have a boyfriend that I really really like, and I never get misgendered, even though I'm not fulltime and I wear androgynous clothing (skinny jeans, well-fitted T-shirt, jean jacket, my 'default' equipment in my in-between phase).
I guess, most of all, I don't feel the need to masturbate 24/7 without rest like some sort of horny savage like I used to. Life is so much more peaceful, and I can actually focus for once in my life. Ironically, it feels around 50x better, but I have 1/50th to even bother. Go figure.
