I've not coded anything in 10+ years, about all I can do now is read and understand some shit.

One of the points I was going to make was that the more complex transformations you do and the more details you have, the more complicated the scenes will get.

Just having descriptions for Dicks and Vag000 seems pretty simple, but when you go CoC stupid and you have Feet, Legs, Arms, Hands, 3 pairs of tits, 10 different dicks, tongue, wings, horns, faces/muzzle. Plus the corruption stat would change some scenes because lol evil.

Before you start writing any scene, first work out what TFs are going to be included, note them down in a document [like notepad, whatever], then work out the basic character description page and what all variable descriptions have to be included.

You are a [$Height] [$Gender] [$Species], your [$Face] is [$Beauty], with [$Eyes] and a [$Nose], [$Lips] with a [$Tongue] and [$Ears]

You are a Short Female Goblin, your Impish face is Considered Cute by many, with Bright Blue Eyes and a Button Nose, Plump Lips with a Short Pink Tongue and Pointy Elf Ears.

The more you do before you start writing scenes, the less you'll have to do later.

A switch is mostly faster than if/elseif/else blocks, since each case block has the same access time, while if/elseif/else has to go through each block to determine, which one is going to be used.

With a low amount of options, it's not that significantly faster though, still switches are good practice to use and easier to read.

When you start the random generation passage, in this case something that assembles the possible events, initialize/reset an array with <<set $whatever to []>>.
Then use whatever variables you feel like- In my own case, different locations and time periods- to send events to that array. All the events are their own passage.
So something like

<</if>>

You can then use the array and a simple variable to send the player to a random event.

FoE is worth checking out. It's a good -fantasy- text game, but I have to warn you it's very different from CoC. In development, though.

Flexible Survival isn't fantasy but has a lot of TF. Super biazarre, though, you might get turned off by some of the weird shit.

There's nothing wrong with the premise, but very often it turn into "feminine male is buttbanged to ahegao/mindbreak", something I find contemptible. That style is so prevalent that I tend to just ignore futa-on-male stories. I much prefer the humiliation aspect. "It's so wrong, this hurts, this is disgusting." as opposed to "It's so wrong but it feels so good!"

I know I'm working on my own game, but no harm in putting suggestions out there anyways, right?

This is probably is only relateable if you're a freak who likes weight-gain, Vore and other weird stuff but I find it's far too often that games that do include these things tack them on as small non-scene affecting things and games that actually focus on them don't include sex or normal things.

It's a weird situation where I can't find a good middle ground with sex and fatty stuff.

To find games that do fat, vore and transformation well you have to drudge through heavily furry content, and I've run into a number of authors who won't do explicitly sexual content in these games because they identify as an asexual, or an "otherkin" or some other snow-flake-noun something. I guess I get it, but it just seems odd for fetish games to not have sex.

Outside of that most people aren't into the content, so you're at a loss.


Also, related but could stand on its own: not a lot of games do actually monstrous monster girls. I'd love to see a good horror themed game some day for some decent fear boners.

I wouldn't have expect you to, there's hardly much in it despite all the time spent on it.

I work full-time, have a fiance that I spent a lot of time with and have very little productive free time, so I shouldn't have expect so much out of my little weirdo experiment. I love this project of mine and I'll always tinker on it when I can, but in the end what is there to show for it? Maybe one day.

Some folks do think it's cool and I fucking love that, but I feel bad for all the poor bastards that have been strung along with the project for so long. I never should have introduced it so early, I just had no idea what making a project like this was like.

Still not stopping anytime soon, but it's something you might not want to check on more than every other month and its a good example of why if you start a project you really want to stay small and focused. Yeah, vore is a thing of mine, I just haven't set it up in the game yet as that something that'll obviously take a lot of ingame mutation and modification to make a human do that, unless of course its just legit cannibalism.

Either way I put in a thing in the background of the game a year or so ago that calculates the caloric/nutritional value of consuming an entire human body. Among other throat stretch and other junk that never got finished.

As for that, mental compulsion thing that's also something I've been tinkering with. I'm trying to set up a sort of addiction and compulsion system, but it's not much beyond "you feel like doing x" kind of messages with little interactivity.

I want to implement something that forces the player to do stuff (through a parasite mind control or something) but yet I don't want it to be intrusive or tedious to someone who doesn't want control taken away.

Sorry, there's no real content but there is a fucking amazing character system in place as well as a system that calculates so many fucking things. The HUD is so amazing, I could put it as my wallpaper and stare at it all day. I come back to it each 3-4 months just to see if there's progress. Despite the updates being slow (haven't check in a few months, actually), I just can't tear myself from that game. I love it. I really, really do.

In one of the older versions, I found this bug: if, after enslaving the rival, you triggered the "prestigious cow contest" event, the game would immediately advance to next week afterwards. There would be no "rival intro" event, where you can have her submit in public, get fucked by the slaves, or stage public use/castration.

I haven't gone far enough into the more recent versions to test if the two events still mess each other up.

Unrelated, but just kind of humorous. As I've been working on porting all the old player system into the entities system and rewriting it all into better stuff I've been setting up new tests. I find it funny that I just set up an equation to figure out if a pair of parasitic worms will mate or not each turn.

As its related to the number of worms and time passage and isn't yet dependent on room or food sources, things can rapidly spiral out of control.

Gave me a good idea about some sort of power stat boosting parasite the player could pick up, but they have to monitor it and make sure not to pick up more than one as they'll start to over breed and cause negative build ups that outweigh the positive effects of the original parasite. Could be a fun way to set up decisions on what to or not to corrupt the body with.

Read outweigh as overweight and started imagining the parasites getting to the poing of weighing down the host and fucking the host and eachother endlessly and unable to remove them while keeping them alive with their boosts.

Parasites spread out and return hosts to help their broodmother with compulsion such as "these guys arent so bad sinse they're making me stronger, I should help them out atleast" and a hive grows from there with the less physicaly usefull becoming brood hosts.

Ha, well you weren't too far off. That's essentially what would happen as each parasite has its own set of weigh and location in the body, this all gets calculated into the player's body and stats.

If the player gets too heavy for their mobility stat they'll collapse into immobility (whether that's from body fat, too much food, a fatigue poison or being filled with an absurd amount of squirming cargo)

Currently the game doesn't actually render you fully immobile though as it would restrict testing too much at this time and I don't have any immobility specific content setup just yet. But eventually it'll be a sort of mini game of people trying to help you, monsters taking advantage and your afflictions worsening.

Compulsions and addictions are something that'll probably come sooner though and will likely find ties into certain parasites.

Ehck, cannibalism. Dug around with prototype quite a bit seeing how far stomach capacity grows, but I suppose it's all for naught if you can't expand your mouth as through other modifications. Worst case scenario you could allow players to drink up a shitload of slime girls or gobble down other squishy/tiny entities.

Essential that's the plan. Certain parasites, pathogens, toxins or mutations can trigger addiction in the player. So a parasite might simply require calories to survive, but if one goes without eating, it'll harm the player or activate metabolic modifiers. There will be others that will give the character an enhanced libido and make it more difficult to resist sex as the parasite is sexually transmitted and needs that route. Or like you said, the parasite prefers liquid protein and it'll force cravings on the player.

This all fits into my planned addiction and compulsion system. These addictions can also be gained by player behavior and won't require space worms. It works around the willpower and sanity stats; the more psychological trauma experienced with low will-power, will decrease one's sanity and increase the risk of experiencing a fugue state. Fugue states will cause the player to lose a few hours and wake up after random stuff has happened while they were out.

To quell sanity loss one needs to build up resistances or find an outlet for stress, like food, drugs or pleasure. Excess use of these outs while in low sanity states will increase the chances of becoming addicted to the substance or action.

It's all partially implemented but I still have some mechanical quirks to work out before I can write content for it. It'll be fun to use this on npcs though.

Can someone explain how the Dominator and Hypnotic traits work apart from mission success?
All I've been able to do is add hypnotic triggers to my slavers (but never find a way to cash them in) and nothing directly with dominator.

Honestly? I'd skip it. "Show, don't tell" is a rule for a reason, and most people will be happier to read backstory if you can either A: slip it into the game once they start actually playing, or B: leave it the fuck out and release a separate codex for the people who care that much.

That was something it took me ages to work out; most people are pretty happy playing games without knowing why. Hand them the controller/keyboard/whatever show them a dude with a sword and say "fuck that purple imp up and head through the door" and boom they're off. Once they start playing, they get invested (emotionally), and that's when they start giving a shit about story, so that's when it's best to hand it to them.

Of course, I say that, but I've already written 5000+ words for my current story, and that only just gets the player past char-gen. Thank fuck it's mostly code words, at least.

So I'm working on a browser/JS game--not something I really plan on releasing, just a toy practice thing. The logic is all pure JS, but I'm looking for something to handle rendering of scenes (meaning, a markup format similar to Twine, or something like that) which can take care of the fucking bullshit UI crap that I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE dealing with.

I've considered Twine2, but there are several problems:

1. I'm doing my logic in ECMA6 to practice the features (Yes, that means it only works in FF nightly. I don't care.) and I doubt that this would work AT ALL with Twine.

2. Twine seems way too limiting, but I haven't found anything else that does the busy-work that I can call directly from pure JS, or similarly leverage.

Ideally, I'd like a way to use something *like* Twine for scene rendering and transitions, text display, and handling all the browser specific bullshit that I don't care about, while still basically letting me include $scene_logic for a given scene that could basically interface with the engine API to let me do the heavy lifting in pure JS.

Any idaes?

Easy. You fuck/get fucked by succubus. While doing so you transform into something differnet. This would be an action.
Alternatively: you do same, but you don't transform instantly, but acquire some taint/disease/parasite/whatever which slowly changes you as time passes. You would be able to prevent it by curing or accelerate by doing same thing again or something similar. This would be (pseudo)physical condition.

if you are going to have small enemies walking around that you have to fight and grind through and the combad is not erotic and you're just bashing eachother over the head, drop it. Or change it so its not exactly what everyone complains about when combat is in a game they just want to fap to. Alternatively limit combat to to Boss characters that you level up from defeating so there is a clear growth in power withput grinding through pain.

Make it fun or sexy or dont do it.

Enemies are a minority compared to events, and most have noncombat solutions. There's also spells that will remove the combat from certain enemy events. Exp is gained in a pile of different ways- Corrupting things/people, getting cultists to worship you/turning them into batteries, and so on. Fights are 1v1, and tuned to be fast.

An option for your consideration: rip out the parts of the Hive engine you don't want. Most of the core UI / engine is game-agnostic.

It's coffeescript, but you can compile to JS once and discard the source if you like.

It has save, load and rendering functions you might like, plus a bunch of icky UI stuff like moving between pages, backscroll, etc.

Different anon here, but as I said last time the whole "No Haven == roguelike" came up, the playstyle does not match in many places. To start with, character generation is actually important to some degree, it increases or decreases your chances of success in a way that can be measured; yet the meat of the game --the missions-- can fuck you over on a moment's notice; on top of this, none of the results are telegraphed ahead of time; no roguelike I've ever seen punishes you for doing better/being luckier, only ever for being worse, not knowing the game, or having bad luck.

This all adds up to a game you have to either wiki or cheat through unless you plain enjoy being fucked over by inconsistency. The start is laborious, which contrasts directly to the meat of the game happily forcing you to go through the start again again again and again. Last I checked the maths, it was set up to fail you by sheer numbers, and in-game actually working out how to do better(ie, manipulate the chances of success) was practically impossible.

Just saying "it's a roguelike" doesn't excuse a poorly thought-out gameplay loop.

You don't die in Dungeon Crawl to a group of hobgoblins at XL:27.
In New Haven, you have a 3% chance to get kidnapped and sexually enslaved by them and on a critical success at 7% you come back with an STD from the hobgoblins that cripples your character. in addition with a 20% chance to just die and get nothing.

You not enjoying those things does not make it poor game design. The popularity of the roguelike genre shows that many people enjoy having to figure stuff out the hard way.

In any roguelike I've ever played, you can go from game over to playing again in less than 30s, because almost nothing during character creation impacts your chances (often on account of those chances being Fuck and All), so dying isn't too much of an issue because it doesn't stop you playing for very long.

Fuck mate, even Dorf Fortress lets you start playing again in under a minute without fucking yourself over provided you don't pick "start with random dwarves, hope to Armok you get an anvil".

Okay, name me a roguelike where choices during character creation both (A) matter, and (B) take more than a few seconds.

I will admit I meant to say that for roguelikes, character creation should take a very small amount of time. This is all pointless though, since my original point is really simple.

New Haven does not have a quick start, and therefore does not match its core gameplay with its start, which makes for a poor gameplay loop.

Good roguelikes do match their gameplay with their start, both are quick so it doesn't matter much if you die, this makes for a good gameplay loop. As in, you die, you spend under a minute getting back into the game, you play some more. No Haven chucks a wrench in the middle of that by taking forever to get back to playing if you start again. Therefore, people cheat or savescum it, simply due to not wanting the grind again.
