Very little Ranma fanfiction understands the characters.

But if they did, Ukyo would be obsessive and manipulative, Shampoo would be obsessive and manipulative, Ranma would be a cocky cunt who loses more often than he indicates (and stalemates and calls it a win), Akane would be constantly trying to measure up, Genma would be a worthless human being, Ryoga is an obsessive and emotionally unstable moron, etc.

They work great in slapstick action comedy, but try to apply to them to something that's serious for more than a few chapters and it crumbles.

Well... with Ranma's personality it's also possible that he'd make a decision to pursue pure mastery of the Art for its own sake. In that case, he could easily consider having any sexual urges at all as an unwelcome distraction.

JParser, mostly. It's more or less accurate; at least, far more so than Google Translate. If it doesn't recognize a word or turns up any weird phrases, I can usually figure it out via google. I think the trickiest part, aside from figuring out kanji that are written way too damn small, is making sure to use the smaller versions of certain kana instead of their regular size. My novice-ness is really showing... Right now, in between eating and work, I've done about 4 out of 20 of the pages.

Nah, typing out the kanji one by one doesn't really take that long. The vast majority of time for me is taken up by figuring out what the sentences are actually saying, since Japanese grammar doesn't really work like ours does, and because the kanji change meaning depending on context. It's the difference between, say, "being sexually assaulted" and "being attacked by a plant".

I apologize for the delay, but I really wanna give the best translation possible with my amateur ability, rather than just quickly churning out a mangled Babelfish-tier mess.

When i was younger i used to get hooked on Interactive Stories. Poor grammar and shitty plots were the making of me, and it took quite a while to break free. Federation was good though.
Finally, i haven't really found any great writer at FM nor TGST but anything related to The Great Switch has pretty good re-readability. Guess you really can't go wrong with the classics.

There's good writers at FM and TGST.

Great, I dunno, but certainly good and readable.

The name gets thrown around a lot, and it's pretty light reading, but I do adore Minikisa's OHAV.

It understands its characters are characters, the TG is interspersed nicely as well as the smut. And I find myself wanting the story not to end as it wraps up which is a good sign.

Sequel didn't grab me, but I was less enamored by its cast focus.

I could probably find a few dozen stories I enjoyed in the past, but then again I used to really enjoy some of the Bikini Beach fare and that was, in hindsight, notsogreat.

If you're looking for something similar to CYOC, Fiction Branches is a fairly tg focused cyoa. It doesn't get nearly as many updates as CYOC but the updates do tend to be higher quality. You're bound to find something that peaks your fancy in the You are what you wish section.
