Caption threads are a rarity and a sore subject, as someone apparently decided they "weren't /d/ enough" and started deleting them whenever they showed up.

And, of course, we also have to deal with people who have no fucking idea how to write and don't want to be told their writing is shit, which makes stuff like what you see here happen.

If you want more sore subjects to laugh at, check the following threads:

Generic Futa Threads (literally any of them will have someone complaining about how much futa there is)
Fart Threads (always gonna be someone bitching about how it makes no sense)

I think this is the more crucial point as to why they get deleted.

It's also why the >>6800232 exists.

Ignoring source material is just one of the issues most of these have, they are often filled with grammar, spelling, etc errors.

And as some people have mentioned, it's just jarring to see captions use western names for popular Japanese characters, especially given how 4chan has iqdb reverse image search built in.

If the captions breaks "character continuity"/is "out of character" you can always chalk it up to it being a cosplayer or the character being affected by a hentai McGuffin.
TG captions tend to be the biggest offenders on that front.

It's less of an issue with things like >>6796233 or >>6769840 or >>6769848 because from what I can tell they just one-off pictures with no actual story behind them to begin with.


And if you are too lazy to check who the character is, just go the route seen in >>6772906 >>6773066 >>6773067

No names means also no breaking of suspension of disbelief.
With that said, as always, good writing trumps all of that because at that point people will simply disregard the picture (though they will also do that if your text takes up 80% of the resulting filesize instead of it complementing with the picture)

Honestly, while I know they can feel a bit morbid I found them to be some of the more original/interesting captions these threads had to offer.

By the way, there was an interesting "censorship" thread yesterday which kinda felt like it belonged to the caption threads (though I can see why it was a standalone thing).

I saw a lot of creative writing in it, which I think might be because you are kinda constrained to smaller "text boxes" so you need to put some care into what you write.

Same here. This caption is a thousand times hotter and conveys way more actual story than any of the page and a half long novellas glued to an image in Paint; most of those are just padding and thesaurus masturbation that more often than not just pulls me out of the story.

Personally, I think that if a caption is too long, the writer should consider making it into a story. They can always post the picture which inspired them along with it. Like, there's no unwritten rule as to how long a story needs to be - with how long some of the captions are, they'd be far better off in a pastebin or simply posted, if only because reading them from a picture can be really awkward depending on picture size and screen resolution.

I don't mind long & detailed as long as there's some actual substance to the length. If you're describing each individual thrust of a fuck session, you aren't really creating content, you're just showing how many different ways you know how to write the same sentence and that's boring as shit. A longer caption should have more content, not just more words.

Plus, doing more with less is a fantastic writing exercise. Write a few captions with no more than 7 lines, then see how much more actual descriptive content ends up in your writing when you expand to 14 lines.

In my opinion a caption should be from 250 words, barely a paragraph, all the way up to 750 words, a bit under the length of a college essay. I really can't stand the captions that are just a text bubble edit or are 1-5 sentences long. Some writers like Elzi can do it well but most of the time it just ends reading like a shallow expression of the writer's fetishes.

On the other hand if a writer just dumps a solid block of 1250+ words onto a picture than I'm probably not going to read it.

Eh, elzi length caps are the best I think.

They are a nice imagination boost and usually also better written than those which are half a VN. They look nicer too since they are part of the Image itself and not just at the side in a white box.

I was reading a potgirl caption the other day and it was really hot the first time I read it, but I failed to fap to it and when I went back to it the next day it just didn't have the same effect. I also noticed on subsequent readings that it was plotless fapcrap.

I've concluded that still images no longer do it for me. I need story, process. Having stuff throw the reader out of the story is just unacceptable for this.

I kind of want to write captions just to improve the general quality and provide OC, but 99% of these are just futa and genderplay from the sound of it. I need some tags here or something.

God, I hate that. One of things that turned me off for awhile was how all the fetish art for my fetish was just the same exact thing over and over again. It's nice to look at, but without a theme behind it it just doesn't have the same meaning. I really don't think quality in porn is too much to ask.

At the same time, I realize that having a criticism image spammed in every thread is completely unhelpful in getting OC flowing. You can't criticize an army of artists and expect the criticism to just magically find its way to the crap authors that'd supposedly benefit from it.

Maybe my priorities are wrong and there's just no way to get porn art to really improve, but I think it's worth trying for anyway. Maybe the perception that smut must be crap is the reason nobody ever tries.

Porn has improved. People kept struggling since the olden days to make it better. All new genres of deviant porn start as the worst drawn and written out there but gain practice and followers to reach new heights. That's why that very criticism image praises the neglected efforts of porn artists like a goal to strive for. It also insults everybody including itself for lulz so the point gets overlooked.

Is that thing the only criticism image getting thrown around? Because that shows immediate room for improvement. If a captioned image can discourage threads, one could also be used to improve them. Like positive, encouraging instructions that teach people to write better. Presented in caption format to serve as its own example so it's more catchy and convincing than just stating an opinion. And remembering to mention Gaggarthkkhen because that's the most crucial part.
