Technically it isn't REALLY R63. Not in the sense that women didn't wear the Mask until the internet wanted it.

Female wearers have been canon in the original comic. She-Mask just goes for a less unisex route that seems to favor the movie.

The basic premise of the fetish is wearing a mask. Of course the face is going to be different from the rest of the body, unless the mask in question is one of those flesh-like latex masks but that's a completely different branch altogether.

Well nigh invulnerability and reality warping powers at one's disposal would be part of the deal too. It's like the Genie from Aladdin or his girlfriend in the TV series, just having the power to invoke whatever the hell the wearer desires on a whim and having their sense of being warped or exaggerated/amplified not-too-unlike what Stanley Ipkiss was in the movie. Of course some the designs take cues or inspiration from the original comics as well even though seldomly taking on Big-Head's instability.

The two common elements borrowed from the Mask work in general is

1) Guesstimating how a female actress would have looked, given that the Mask movie had two distinct designs for both Stan and Dorian (a very often overlooked point, next to the part about Stan having at least 2 different outfits when transformed)

2) The first volume and an unfinished story "Sugar and Spice" (see here >>6707418
) had some WIP sketches with a more distinct Mask design when Kathy wears the Mask. The comics moved on to a more unisex fashion hailed by some dissidents of the fandom as the look we should be going for, didn't do the research, and all that other accusatory fluff.

A lot of work doesn't really convey the chaos or madness that COULD happen from wearing it but honestly, I couldn't care less lately. It's become a character driven "down the list" fetish at this point and if anyone has a problem with that, Paypal takes about 5 minutes to set up, go and do the job right yourselves with your meek secretaries and non-anime stuff. I'm not the goddamn errand boy.

Anyway, the fetish varies on the person.
