Technically you can defend yourself with magic, but eventually you'll come upon someone sufficiently prepared that can protect themselves from your spells or disable them; almost all classical fantasy has a spoken and/or gesture requirement to activate, so there's not much you can do if you're kept bound and gagged, with a pistol trained at your family's heads if you're not, or some kind of failsafe or dead man's switch. So if your captors are inept, you'll get away, if they know what they're doing no one will ever find your body either.

But, desu, I guess if you just come up with one specific contrived scenario you can corrupt almost literally any wish, I think it's much more interesting to find fundamental flaws in the wish. (which in your case was my first point, the requirement to learn the spells, and only now I also notice you didn't specify a lack of material costs, so there could be a lot of exotic ingredients or just pure cash (5.000 gp worth of diamonds) needed. Granted this isn't as big, especially if you make a business out of it, but it's still there.)

I play wizards often! Especially with D&D spells I'm going to need some exotic reagents. (Gold in some cases, bat guano in others.) though in some fantasy settings like Witcher or Warhammer Fantasy reagents aren't often used. It was purposefully very broad, and completely optional whether I cast the spells, because if someone were to corrupt a spell or a genre I'd just use a different one.
