Ok, whippersnappers, let me explain to you the historical importance of the x-change games (regardless of how good they actually were, I am probably going to have to put on nostalgia glasses when replaying these).

For years they were pretty much the only translated visual novels involving genderbending as a fetish.
Not only that but some of the few officially translated and licensed visual novels in the West.

The story itself is as generic as it gets because you are supposed to self-insert as the main character.

Still, iirc it was actually pretty decent as far as porn games go (or rather choose your own adventure games) and well, they are fully voiced which is a rarity in those games in.the west (in Japanese, for sure but it does help set the stage and mood)

never been a fan of voiced VN personally, I like to imagine their voice according to the english dialogue.

Basically this.
They started with the idea being that they were a weird hybrid between anime, (non-interactive) audio novel/drama and (old-school) "text CYOA" videogames.

And the formula has been the same since the 90s, quite honestly, only back in the day they limited the voice to "cutscenes" while later they added "everything is voiced" (except maybe internal monologue) during the 00s.

X-Change is one of the early examples where the entire game is voiced (except the internal monologue I believe).

And again, you can turn it off if you don't want to listen to the Japanese voice acting (and moaning).


Mind you I have played stuff like Fate/Stay Night (with the voice patch) which is much better written but I feel that dismissing the immersion the voice provides altogether (especially when it is optional) is a bit disingenous to say the least, even if it doesn't personally do anything for you.

I used Visual Basic back in the 90s and it was kind of okay. Don't use C# if you can help it, MS seems to like to break it every now and then (see RAGS)

Twine seems to be okay for text-heavy stuff-- it works if all you need is some things to click. Flash is still popular for some retired reason.

I think inform+glulx has GUI support? I haven't messed with it outside command mode.

If text is the main focus of your game, I think I'd abandon the GUI idea and use Inform 7. This'll make you way more productive. (For reference, Trap Quest was written with Inform 7.)

If you want or need to code a bunch of stuff from scratch, Tk is pretty good. Tk is most commonly used with Python, but it can be used with any language. Python would IMO be just fine for text-heavy or 2D games.

So in the original YnK, 6 people go out on a boat trip, along with a stowaway. A freak storm capsizes their boat and leaves them stranded on an island that has only a single mansion. In the mansion lives the beautiful Sayoko and her cute maid, K. Unfortunately, the only way off the island is a supply boat that won't be arriving for another month, and there is no way to contact the mainland (before cellphones) so the 7 must live at the mansion for the next month.

Of course, Sayoko is a pervy sorceress who called the storm and wants to corrupt all of her new guests (oh and there is some supernatural entity called the Voice in the Shadows (Yami no Koe) who is in league with Sayoko but htat's not important until the end).

Each turn is a day, and you choose which characters interact with each other. To begin with you can only choose to have one of the main 6 interact with Sayoko or K (Nanami, the stowaway is actually looking for her brother Kei who went missing some time ago and she knows something is up). Once you've hit teir 1 corruption with a character, you can have them interact with the other characters the same way you do with Sayoko and K.

Here comes the best part: Each character starts off with 2 tracks, a red track and a blue track. Depending on who they interact with, one of the tracks will raise. Once a track is filled, the color determines the route that character will take, and they are a teir 1 corruption.

For example, the group's genki girl can become a sadist on the red track, or a catgirl on the blue track. Each characters tracks are different, and you get different cutscenes when they interact past teir 1 depending on what track they took.

Fetish-wise, there is BDSM, catgirl, a trap, genderbending, sloth, a little bit of tentacles, and a lot of more vanilla 'drowning in lewd' type corruption.

YnK 0 is a prequel in the same style as the first, where OBVIOUS SPOILER AHEAD you find out how Kei became K

YnK 0 is also the one with the Dildo Master, if you every see the picture of the dude covered in dildoes.

YnK 2 follows K to a private academy where she enslaves the headmaster and starts to corrupt the school. Instead of having different tracks for each character, you have 12 characters with a single track (well, one of the tracks is actually 3 girls together, but i digress).
