It massively ate into the author's time for other content and coincided with the ruination of his friendship with Slimebeast.

I purposefully didn't keep up with updates for a long time so I could have a large amount to binge, but now I can't work up the effort to read it again.

Nah, he's exactly the kind of hapless well intentioned dude who gets devoured by them, they do prefer to eat their own, and he's a white guy with creepy tendencies, I stopped reading his tumblr because it was only a matter of time before he took a wrong step. Doesn't seem to have happened yet though...
