WTF is that response? I'm just angry at Average Joe Schmo for rewarding Hollywood after they took the only good thing out from a movie — Curry's astounding psychologically frightening performance, and replaced it with Boo the Scary Clown.

The movie is much better than your average horror garbage, since Hollywood just fucking forgot how to do good horror somewhere in the 90's, but it's still pretty meh. And because of it, people will probably not even remember the original that has a genuinely great performance and doesn't rely purely on jump-scares and music cues.

I saw it on VHS when I was thirteen after reading the book. It wasn't very good.

Although to be fair the only thing scary in the book at all is Patrick Hocksteader, who's barely in either version. I'll give the new one credit for at least making Patrick creepy though.

In 2017 It, the children survive because they manage to run away from Pennywise after being terrorized for a little.
In 1990 It, Pennywise just messes with them from a safe distance and lets them go.
Pennywise isn't very effective as a monster, but he's a lot scarier in the new one.

IT was surprisingly comfy. Mostly thanks to the music. If they wanted to make it a more intense film, they really needed a more industrial beat to it. As it was, the soundtrack made it more of a thriller than anything else if you just cut out Bev's subplot with her dad. Does anyone remember the Frighteners? It was basically the Frighteners in terms of tone; it could get fucked up, but it was mostly funny.
