all i know is, the 1989 original film is one of the best comic book movies ever made, it is legitimately a masterpiece. The scene where splinter calls raph over and touches him and asks him basically "why are you so mad? you have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself" actually gets a tear from me everytime.

If you ignore the comics, the 80s cartoon was fine for what it was at the time, it overstayed its welcome that's for sure.
