When facing organized dipshits like this Hydra knockoff band, one of the things that is more powerful than a super hero is the crowd and public support. Another thing is giving one side or another a martyr by the wrong action. They had gone after Kamala, so she was clear to do what she wanted in the situation, but that was the best way to not start a riot either by fantasy racists or the crowd, while also being around if the racists chose to shoot someone they could not justify.

1. token religious talk. they must show they are religious. The apparent instigator of the discussion was apparently the more religious person of the duo which makes sense.
2. escalation: they stop the supposedly serious religious talk because there is something more important to do

I think there is also the intent to start a conversation about what constitutes a proper attire as written, what does it really mean, and if the intent is just identification while the head dresses we see are largely cultural holdovers, aren't there alternative means?
We see these two have very different perspectives on what their hijab means.
Tyesha sees it as a signifier of value and tradition while Nakia sees it as a carrier of identity and an open challenge while her values are actually of a socialist bent.

Gotta say, I kinda like how a lot of things happening felt rather random at first but start to come together as patterns and arcs. But it's probably one reason the floppies sell like day-old bread. It's clearly written with a much longer format in mind. Also, as many anons show, it's often too subtle in what it does. What a strange way to end a story. I mean, it's weird, but I actually prefer it when there's a knock-down, drag-out, brutal fight that matters.

Having the villains just sort of job isn't really narratively satisfying. I mean, this looked like it was going to be a really bloody confrontation, but the bad guys were basically paper tigers.

An issue of space and pacing. They had been fighting for several issues, on and off. The standoff itself ran for two issues. So a protracted fight would add little.
Yeah, this is kinda fast, but panel number does not really equal time and the comic is not really about punch fights.
This is all about Kamala's fight with doubt and despair over this darkening of her surroundings.
She didn't need all that much to get over it, in the end. A friendly face, a few encouraging words, a hearty meal.
