I think it's sort of an interesting approach to world building. Smaller things that are really important to the every person still happens, even if more important things are happening, and we get to see those things.
There maybe grand wars, and ecological and economical crises going on in our world right now.
But Jim is still heartbroken because his dad who has been there for him all his life, recently died form cancer.
Sasha just got that promotion that she's been working hard for for the past 10 years.
The Whippersnappers are celebrating their first little league victory, after having lost so many times.
Lisa's dog just ran away, and the family is desperately trying to find it again.
All of these things can seem minor compared to the grander things going on at the same time, but to the individual people those are the most important things currently.
It can help make the world feel like an actual world where people exist, instead of a setting used to tell a story.

Or they have no no fucking idea what they're doing when it comes to pacing, and I'm just talking out my ass. Who knows.

Because the wants to be two different things at once. It wants to be that show with lore and an overarching plot, but at the same time, it also wants to be a SOL comedy. And it just doesn't work because of how awkwardly the Sugar tries to marry the two concepts together. You'll have some kind of arc like the Malachite arc where the priority is to find Lapis/Jasper or else they'll go out of control and start wrecking the entire planet. But instead, the plot just comes to a grinding halt because we have to have a several episodes of Steven dicking around with the townies until the plot is ready to start up again. The months long hiatuses between episodes only end up making it even more noticeable and jarring as well.

Fact of the matter is 90% of the human SOL is just boring and doesn't separate the show from every other SOL show. I used to think about SU this way. I never gave it a chance, because I thought it was peddling a bunch of pc pap, but then my roommates were watching it while I was cooking food one night and I got hooked.

The fanbase is retarded, but the people who shit on the show and say that it's pure SJW propaganda are also retarded. Sure, there's a few times where certain ideology is ham-fisted into the show, but in my experience it's a fun cartoon that can be funny and serious just fine. There is a lot of lesbian relationships but it's easy to look past that shit and just roll with it. I've enjoyed it so far.

Like everything else in the fucking world everyone is waaaay too polarized over it.

That being said, I agree with OP, it could use more plot and less SoL, it gets annoying when you go more than 2 episodes without seeing any of the Gems.

I hate how people shove Wanted in our face when all we got was 5 seconds of homeworld while the other 44 minutes was in a white or black void and a cave.

I also hate how we only met two new gems while the rest were fusions and a recolor that can't even show their face.

It's only really Season 4 where the SOL stuff sucked. I have no idea how Future Boy Zoltron or Rocknaldo got past the intitial stages. At least Tiger Philantropist was related to character development and tied up the wrestling subplot for Steven and Amethyst. Hopefully it gets better in S5, and Reunited is about how the Townies were effected by Steven and Lars being taken to space so that's a good first step.

Disagree entirely, Wanted deserves every bit of praise it got. We're going to see more of Homeworld, it doesn't matter if it's above or below ground. My only complaint with it, and it's kind of minor, is that the Off Colors could've been introduced better but they still turned out great so it's a nitpick really.

And to top it all off, Lion is going to get lost. So the cool adventures and insight on homeworld we should be getting will be offscreen while we listen to the humans and their little problems.

Plus, (once again, the main character's POV deal this show has is screwing us) we probably won't get proper flashbacks since everything will be in silhouette form and most of the characters will be voiced by the person telling the story.

I loved the first season because between episode 1 to 52 it seamlessly transitioned from a SOL comedy show to a serious emotional drama/action adventure, with the the season finale seeming to open the floodgates for all kinds of even more wild shit to happen from then on.

But then from S2 onward barely anything does happen. The status quo is restored with the exception of a few bad gems getting extremely drawn out redemption arcs before being relegated back to supporting cast status. Every new threat/villain is an anticlimax and at this point almost every main character has had their emotional arcs resolved and then some. It needs to wrap up already.

I think S6 will be a "try and fix corruption but not really" thing. Not being cynical, just seems like the logical next step.

They just need to tighten the SOL episodes, make plot stuff more exciting and trim the fluff from the crew. Zuke and Raven are gone (meaning less sloppy art or gremlin Peridot) and the current head writers left after Season 5 was completed. It'll be completely refreshed for the sixth season onwards.

Cheaper and less difficult to animate, gives the Koreans some breathing room in between the plot.

Season 1 was smart enough to use monsters of the week and weird gem artifacts to make sure that the slice of life adventures didn't feel completely disconnected from the rest of the show. Episodes like Onion Gang and Restaurant Wars really, really needed that extra element in them.

Look guys, this show has problems but its not as bad as /pol/ makes it out to be. Yes, theres gay characters, but theres also straught white men shown in a good light(and mostly a better light then the actual gay characters), and rocknaldo even made fun of SJWs. However, the show is horrible at pacing, treating characters like shit after the one arc their character was made for had ended, and for focusing on townie shit rather then the gems(i dont care about plot so much because sucrouse has said thats not the aim of the series, i just want those episodes to focus on the gems who i actually like instead of the shitty townies). So at the end of the day, its a very flawed show but has great characters, is (mostly) very enjoyable, and isnt some SJW propaganda to infect the minds of children. Now, does anyone have those pictures of sizz-lorr as alex jones, because that shit is great.

I dont understand this either. All this talk about CN refusing to play story driven shows all of a sudden makes no sense. They didnt care about this years ago when playing other story cartoons(they were mostly action cartoons before adventure time but even regular comedies had some story), and for about 6 years no one cared about playing regular show or adventure time out of order. You just expected the viewer to peice together info from episodes and maybe the internet. This supposed mandate to not show story driven shows, which as far as we know isnt even confirmed, seems to have come out of left field and feels like something some new exec is autistic about rather then a real problem CN is worried about. If anything this is failing because TTG ratings are shit and overall the network is loosing viewers and loosing them fast.

The SoL "filler" is fine and has been there from the start. Its the air schedule that makes it seem annoying. I watched the whole thing in one go and liked pretty much every episode but can understand how frustrating it would be to wait months and end up getting an episode about the donut shop
