Because when she's written by someone with more than three brain cells, she's a good character who has deep flaws, and she knows she does, so she tries to help people to atone for what she sees as her own failings.

Marvel likes that whore, and they like her because they want to make her the new Superman and sell Superman numbers except they don't have a Superman, they have Carol Danvers who is like the anti-superman. Someone whose entire purpose was a character in way over her head that did the best she can, but never really 100% succeeded at anything.
Their attempt to make a flawed hero into a idyllic visage of Superman has killed two characters. It killed Carol Danvers and it killed Captain Marvel.
