Maybe it's just me, but I feel like these could work without explicitly referring to the AI aspect. It feels like AI are constantly talking about how they're AIs. We know that and the characters know, why bring it up?

Can't we get from the subtext (really the text because she's a brightly coloured machine) that Faye is incredulous because she's a robot and the cop is disturbed but it's surprising?

I'm not someone who ever thought QC wasn't shit, but some of the older art at least had some life in it. This just looks empty.

Compounding all of this is the fact that he's not innovated whatsoever. The only bits of his comic that look somewhat passable, if you forget that this is not a beginner's comic, are the bits he's been drawing for 14 years, i.e. people standing in 3/4th profile at half length. Alice Grove, or whatever, shows that anything that attempts to stray from that regresses severely.
The man must never draw outside of QC. It's absolutely fascinating to wonder at.

It's kind of more of an ensemble now. It shifts between Claire's brother, who kind of became Mertin's clone with his own Bakery/Coffee shop crew, Faye and the Robots, and Some new chick who overlaps with Claire's brother.

I don't actually read it, just these threads. Marten and Claire basically just show up to react to someone else being wacky. They'll always be cuddling or something to show Tumblr that this man/MTF relationship is totally kawaii and drama free.

The problem with these jokes is not just the standard American punchline-orientated humour, it is worse. It's got a punchline and then a less funny post-punchline. This comic sticks to that formula. It's bad. The last one or two speech bubbles can ALWAYS be removed for a less shit comic.

This is because Jeph needlessly boxes himself into a rigid format and formula as if after 15 years some newspaper is finally going to pick up QC. The man is incapable of laying out his panels in a way that tells the story. Instead he forces the story to fill exactly four symmetrical panels.

Yeah, this is my beef with his buffer claims. Any time something goes wrong in the fandom, there's always a 180 degree turn next strip. He obviously reacts to harsh criticism on a moment to moment basis.

Adding to that, the only times where he ever seems to have an automatic upload is when he goes to cons or something, and when that happens, he invariably forgets to make a strip for the day he returns, forcing him to rush something out.

It's clear that he draws everything the day of the upload. He may have certain scripts done, but even that's pushing it

Jeph also apparently never does a cursory pass at his comic, either, because there are often glaring mistakes.

My favorite one will always be the original "You're beautiful" strip where Marten was in a featureless blue Cube, before Jeph did some 20 second MS Paint touch ups. If you zoom in, there's dead pixels where the bucket tool couldn't reach. It's hilarious.

A part of me is irked that he makes so much money, instead of competent Webcomickers like Ashley Cope, but I find solace that he's stuck with this garbage forever.

I think he wanted his shitty band to overtake QC, but that failed. I'm happy that he's damned to a perdition of his own making

He works a couple hours a day drawing this strip, maybe, if not less. Artists who work harder, like Tom Siddell, make more content and get better. Remember, GC may only update 3 days a week, instead of QC's 5, Tom actually has a buffer.
