Just started watching the Tick on Amazon Prime.
Should I go back and read the comic books, watch the cartoon, and/or watch the previous live action show first? I know it's a reboot, but how much more will I get out of it if I know the source material?
Also, even if there's no need to go back and consume other stuff first, what of the other stuff is worth my time?
I don't think you'll get that much out of it. This new show is written by the creator, so he's likely to make this very self contained.
I, however, am going back to all of them, simply because I was too young and I don't recall anything, so I want to catch on again.
It sure doesn't hurt, if you have the free time.

Cool, thanks. The Amazon show seems interesting so far. It stays good, then?

It stays good. Gets better, IMO.

Well, only the 6 first episodes are out to avoid binge watching the entire season on a free trial month.
In my opinion the 6 episodes are solid, I'm a big fan of Peter Serafinowicz and I trust the direction going.
I'm starting the live action Patrick Warbuton show now, then I'll do the cartoon and then maybe the comics.

that's pretty much what he's done with each interpretation. Made its its own satire.

Cool.

When does the rest come out? And won't people just wait until it does and then binge the whole thing?

What is this a satire of, exactly? There's obviously humor and silliness, but the story itself seems more or less serious. At least as of episode 1.

Its a play on the more Modern Superhero Genre much like the Comic and Cartoon were a play on Sliver Age things.

The first Tick was a satire of silver age heroes, the live action is a bit of a satire of that and the Christopher Reeve's Superman and Burton's Batman. This one is a satire of the new gritty era of superheroes. Later on you'll be introduced to a character called Overkill that is like something you'd see on modern hero movies.

Cool. Thanks. It feels more like an affectionate parody than like it's trying to rip anything a new asshole. I appreciate that.

They're always like that because in Ben Elund's words he was making fun of things he really loved. He's a big comic geek.

The comic book and the animated series are pretty much unrelated with complete different stories, using other characters.
OP are you....you know....Funny?
>>95273576
I'm about 80% serious, 20% funny, and picky about who I'm funny with.
The comic is a little bit cheesy but has some cool old fashioned stuff.
really make you think

Comic Arthur seems to be the only version of Arthur who actually deliberately became a superhero and searched out for the Tick. Cartoon Arthur and 2001 Arthur started wearing the suit but met the Tick by coincidence (cartoon Tick happened to be falling from a building, 2001 Tick heard Arthur's cries for help) and Amazon Arthur is a reluctant superhero since the story's about his development.

I think the amazon version is the worst incarnation of the character, but still pretty good. My favorite version is the 2001 live action show because it deals with my favorite superhero tropes. Also the comic is a satire of Bronzs Age not Silver Age. Fucking plebs.

It depend, on one issue he team-up with a Dick Tracy parody against a lot of Looney Tunes tier villains.
>>95274025
wow i love muscly arthur
The ninja shit of the first issues is pretty Bronze age tier though. (with nice waifu material)
on another early one he also fought against a hired communist villain who was not supposed to fight against him.

that one.

that's gay as fuck

>the comic is a satire of Bronze Age not Silver Age
OP here. Bronze age is my favorite besides modern, so you have my attention.
>>95272503
it's ALL good, just watch it when you feel like watching it.
seriously i've never known this to happen before, 4 versions of the same story and every single one is fucking good
i was not aware the new show was out, time to pirate! (i actually have access to an amazon prime account but i am that lazy)
