To answer your question, seasons 5 and 6 are generally considered the weakest, and I somewhat agree with that. Still good overall though, with many of the series' best episodes.

Around season 4 it becomes hit or miss then devolves from there.

If you only randomly tune in on TV and havent been following the show since it started it started getting "weird" after the second season. The show it itself is throughout fully random crap for the most part so if you look at it like that it's totally fine. However this board has been following it closely and it has a lot of plot and drama advancements as well and changes with who works on the show over the course of it's run.

somewhere in season 5 or 4, when fun stuff stops happening and the show becomes just "stuff." In old season 1-3 finn and jake would have cool and exciting things happen and meet wacky characters. starting in season 4, finn and jake would go on more mundane adventures, sometimes you couldn't even call it an adventure because they would go to a place we've been to before. and the new character of the day would start to be less silly and "random" and more boring and uninteresting.

Take the episode "web weirdos" (season 4 episode 3) F&J are just walking in a forest and then they're stuck in a spider web, and thats the whole episode! The characters in that episode are the most tame and uncolorful characters I remember in this show. We don't see any new places, the characters don't do anything interesting or out of the ordinary.

In short, nothing happens. Nothing interesting or exciting happens, no "Adventuring" happens.
And thats when the show sucks, when theres no adventuring.

It doesn't. People who hate it jumped ship because it either didn't fit into their little fantasies of what adventure time should be or they got unusually annoyed by the finn romance sub plots that really were just minor at best here and there.
