The US doesn't have the home video market the Japanese do. Direct to Video over there used to (don't know if it still does) mean quality. Direct to Video over here has always been cheap garbage.

That and America has almost always been lazier about it's porn. Best we had going was those "parodies" a few years back, but I haven't seen anything good in some time. We never got found an emphasis on plot and situation, or even decent writing for the most part. A large part of that is that shooting porn is different than animating something, where you can take the time to get it right. I want to say porn shoots focus on cheap production, so there is no doing multiple takes or planning scenes to go just right. It's basically you pay some people to fuck and call it a day.

There is no aspect of collection or supporting your favorite studio. It's all about churning this stuff out on the cheap so it can line the shelves of money laundering fronts and filling clickbait porn sites. At best we get highly specialized fetish sites, and the occasional content creator who invariably gets lazy because Patreon doesn't offer much incentive to produce.

Valve painted it as a service, while Destiny paints it as a cashgrab. Part of that is doing it first (before it became obvious), part of that is a value prospect. TF2 costs $0 to buy, $0 to play, runs on cheap computers, you can get hats for free, and the microtransactions are relatively small by comparison. People have either spent hundreds of hours already in the game before it asks for money or are spending nothing to start playing.

Destiny costs $60 to buy, the PSN price to play, a $400 investment to even start, and everything from cosmetics to gun upgrades are a microtransaction if you don't feel like grinding for them. People feel jewed because they're asked for money every little step of the way, and so even just playing the fucking game gets interrupted by requests for money.

As an aside, Microsoft is moving away from consoles because they believe they can lock down PC gaming with Win10 and their own PC manufacturing. They aren't moving away from consoles as much as trying to turn PC gaming into their own gaming platform.
