RA was just out of place. Most of the audience was just disappointed because they got a season 1 ep (except for a brief mention of trying to get over Wendy) shoved into a point where the story was ramping up and they were expecting something big like what happened in the episode after. Ford basically doesn't exist. The last episode mentions how they can't leave the protective barrier over the Shack then they go on a fucking road trip without even a throwaway line about the incoming Apocalypse. It wasn't clear since most people who watched didn't think anyone was hypnotized just distracted. I still think the most genuine drop the ball thing was Escape from Reality. It could have been a really moving end to Dipper and Mabel's arc, but instead it rang hollow and did make Mabel seem unlikable. In the end it seemed like just a wierd sidenote and the plot didn't even make sense (there's no convincing reason for Bill even trapping Mabel in the bubble aside from circular reasoning with Gideon or lots of fan justifaction). Still it's hardly an unpardonable sin just a letdown especially since Mabel and Dipper did nothing of relevance after EfR so that was their resolution.

Mabel should have needed to free herself and the others from the bubble. Having anyone else do it was utter shit. The bubble should have been convincing and Mabel should have had to consciously give it up and had to accept that she would eventually need to grow up. Intead they trotted out some stupid Reality vs. Fantasy crap that made no sense because Mabel liked reality, her friends and life, she just didn't want it to ever change. If anything Dipper was the one who wanted to escape into supernatural shit. The set up made no sense.

Also they just resolved it with "well we'll always be together!" But that's not true. Someday all siblings grow at least a little bit apart and things change. They could have emphasized that they would always stay friends unlike Stan and Ford. But they should have had Mabel accept some unpleasant realities and sacrifice so she could grow as a character. Ford was the one who caused the apocalypse by making a deal with a demon in the first place and though Mabel knew the snowglobe was important it was Ford's extreme secrecy and paranoia that kept her from knowing what exactly it was.

She was already aware of Bill's existence and didn't trust him, so telling her that the snowglobe would set him free right at the start, like Dipper wanted to, would have prevented the whole damn thing.

Not gonna jump on either of the forming bandwagons here (Mabel = Hitler and shipping). I want to talk about the ending. My parents are divorced and I only see my mother on vacations, and when we leave her the goodbyes are allways like the ending of Gravity falls, with everyone gathered and a sort of peacefull sadness. I have to admit that I teared up at the end because firstly it was a fantastic show that ended and secondly because it hit very close to home

Most of my family goes months/years without seeing each other, and when we finally do, we barely say hello. It's usually just an awkward "so, you're here, huh?" and then we go about our business. More apathetic than peaceful.
