I remember everything up until they first got all seven chaos emeralds pretty well. I paid less attention after that, but then I think they adapted SA1 and 2, had a mini arc with Emerl, and then finally sent everyone home.
Then it skips to several years later and Chris finds a way to their dimension right when a race called the Metarex came into play.
From there it gets a lot fuzzier, they build a space cruiser with the Master Emerald, find Cosmo, there's some minor shipping with her and Knuckles before they drop it completely and switch to Tails instead. They go to a bunch of planets, fight giant robots, Sonic goes edgy super at one point, and they save the universe but Tails has to kill Cosmo as a result, and only a seed is left of her.

It actually was a pretty memorable show, but I felt it dropped off in quality greatly during the Metarex thing. Also I thought Helen(wheelchair girl) and Topaz(Rouge's agent partner) were pretty great characters. I liked the implied shipping that was hinted at between Helen and Chris post time skip, they'd make a cute couple.

No, I have no idea why I seem to remember this show so well, but it's certainly more memorable than you'd think. Also, pic related was adorable.

Of course not, I have vivid memories of being unimaginably hyped for this show, recording the "sneak preview" of the series(really just the first episode aired before they started airing regularly) on VHS and watching it repeatedly.
It and Kirby: Right Back At Ya WERE my Saturday mornings, and I thought the Sonic X theme song was awesome as heck, something I still unironically think.

How do you make ANY character relevant in the modern games? The cast of SA1 and SA2 were relevant because of the roles they played in the story (government agent, hunting the emerald shards, eggman robot, etc.), But with the way the story works in modern Sonic games it's hard to think of a way to make most of them truely relevant outside of them just showing up.

This. Even nowadays, the casts of CGI shows are usually much smaller than 2D animation. As the show goes on and models build up, you begin to see larger and larger casts develop. We just got an example of this in the facebook episode. That Red Herring from the evil villain inspection episode just moved into town. We had the incident with Perci/Staci too.

The only show I can think of that this didn't really happen in was The Clone Wars, partially because Lucas was personally footing the bill and because the setting naturally lent it self to a lot of similar looking characters: all the clone troopers could be the same with minor alterations and the entire enemy army was full of mass produced robots and a few different leaders.

There have been instances where they modelled and rigged characters for one off things but in general they're definitely focused on making assets that can be reused, I'm pretty sure I remember the show joking about how the robots keep getting reused at one point too

I'm crossed on whether I want Blaze to appear on the show. On the one hand she's my favorite Sonic character and she's never appeared on a tv show before. It would also be interesting to see what kind of redesign she would be given for the show. On the other hand I really don't like her current voice actress in the games and that's most likely who they would have voicing her if she appeared on the show.

I think she would be interesting to see what they would do with her, especially since I doubt they'd add something like the Sol crystals or anything from Sonic '06. Blaze really hasn't appeared as a character in much else, being regulated to cameos or merely a playable character in things like the Olympics game. I think she'd be the straightman. Team Sonic sort of passes this one ball of being weirded out by whatever comedic nonsense is going down, but there's no real character who's shtick is being super serious. I guess Shadow sort of did that in his one episode, but that was more about him being a tool than the straightman friend.

In all honesty, the "Future/Alternate Dimension/50 Years Ago Space Ark" backstories really get in the way when it comes to incorporating these characters into current stories (and I'm talking about the games as well).
