Definitely of the best animated movies of 2010s. A hero's symbolic death and journey to the world of his gods to be reborn as a better person calls back to the ancient myths of many cultures. Even more than that, there's also gods themselves coming to an agreement to stop petty destruction for the sake of the ever-continuing stream of life and creation. And the fact that a movie about a bunch of Lego figures managed to do that only proves that there doesn't have to be thematic selectivity, the "you can only make a good story if it's not about X" type of bias.

People were thinking about The Lego Movie before it came out then the same way they were thinking about Emoji Movie now. The fact that Lego Movie even had something to say even if it's shallow, is enough to have it not be overrated but be the pleasant surprise that it is. Also helping was that it was funny.

This crap right here. It's got the typical and formulaic plot of a late 80's/ early 90's sitcom. Cringe-like dialog. Stereotypes in place of characters. Poor and cramped looking designs. Pandering on par with TTG. But the worst thing about the Loud House is the way they treat boys differently than the girls; in "the toilet humour only affects boys" way.

I think the real 'brilliance' of The Lego Movie was how they used a real, well known toy property to explore the notion of creativity in a pretty expansive way.

On the other hand while I don't see it that way myself, I can understand that someone would find it overated.


Personally I'd say Gravity Falls.
Like it's great and well executed but I don't find much new.
It's like they do what all the great nostalgic shows or films have done before and they do it really well. But there isn't an angle in there I haven't seen before in a show, except maybe the cryptology.

They took a few frames out of the scenes. It gives the appearance of stop motion but it isn't. They did some stop motion, however. But you can get the same multidimensional animation in Gumball's World or whatever that show's called.

The problem in all of them is the pacing. They build up all these characters and then you don't even get to hear or see them for a full season. I admit I like to see my favourite characters portrayed by live actors. But is it so wrong to want them done objectively right?
