they don't have to be bad; just overrated.

Definitely of the best animated movies of 2010s. A hero's symbolic death and journey to the world of his gods to be reborn as a better person calls back to the ancient myths of many cultures. Even more than that, there's also gods themselves coming to an agreement to stop petty destruction for the sake of the ever-continuing stream of life and creation. And the fact that a movie about a bunch of Lego figures managed to do that only proves that there doesn't have to be thematic selectivity, the "you can only make a good story if it's not about X" type of bias.
>>
>>95210999
People were thinking about The Lego Movie before it came out then the same way they were thinking about Emoji Movie now. The fact that Lego Movie even had something to say even if it's shallow, is enough to have it not be overrated but be the pleasant surprise that it is. Also helping was that it was funny.

Also I hope you don't mind if I move the goalposts.

>>dude! Kids see things differently than adults! lmao. Awesome!
So things are just judged by their concept, not their execution?
>>
>>95211195
Yeah I had such nothing expectations for the LEGO movie it was a huge surprise when it turned out to be the best non Laika animated movie I've seen in years.
>>
>>95211246
The irony in this post is staggering.
>>
>>95211246
?????????????????????????????????????
>>
>>95211160
But... Toy Story already did that. Cars already did that. LEGO movie didn't do any groundbreaking. People only praiae it because they autistic dialoug reminded them of kids and the movement vaugely resembles stop motion.

you're retarded my dude

please explain how arguing "NO ITS NOT OVERRATED BECAUSE I SAY SO" is at all the same as "don't be a faggot"
>>
>>95210999
You're just dead inside, OP.
>>
>>95211451
All I'm going to say is Where the Wild Things Are did it too. Both animated and live action. And it's far more timeless than Lego Movie.

It's like you're retarded or something.

>turning to juvenile name calling
Oh so you're on a bias. Fine. Enjoy your over saturation of the same genre over and over again. It's folks like you that lower the quality of Hollywood movies.
>>
>>95211735
That's not what "genre" means. Hell that's not what "bias" means.
And I'm pretty sure I'm not the target audience of the Lego Movie.
>>
>>95210999
"Overrated" feels like one of those concepts that are entirely subjective and with very vague boundaries. We all have an understanding of what it means intuitively, but it's too poorly defined to be a practical point of criticism or analysis.
>>
>>95211946
True. What most anons ITT don't get is that I meant for the replies to be opinions.

"Good" feels like one of those concepts that are entirely subjective and with very vague boundaries. We all have an understanding of what it means intuitively, but it's too poorly defined to be a practical point of criticism or analysis.
>>
>>95211978
Fair enough. It's certainly not a bad topic or question, it's just that that word can trigger sometimes. Kind of sucks that you'd even have to, but next time it might be a good idea to clarify that you want anons' opinions.
>>
What's the difference between something that's overrated vs something I simply don't like?
>>
>>95212269
Anon, there is a reason why professional critics (of all mediums) may use the word "good" or "bad" when describing a piece, but tend not to use "overrated". Because overrated does not describe the work, it describes how one feels about the collective reaction to said work.

I assumed you were lumping the concepts of good and bad with that of overrated. But, okay, sure. If you consider they both really take the same approach, that's fine I suppose.

Black Manta. Name a more FUCKING overrated villain than Black Manta.

No, he isn't bad, he's actually really good, but 4chan hypes him up and discusses him like he's the best villain ever written

It's not uncommon. I mean, personally I only come here to find people that agree with me. As a matter of fact I'm avoiding /tv/ for the next month because they keep talking about IT and why it didn't have the orgy scene.

This, it was everywhere and yet a typical love story only that the characters are children and gay. Such degeneracy
>>
This crap right here. It's got the typical and formulaic plot of a late 80's/ early 90's sitcom. Cringe-like dialog. Stereotypes in place of characters. Poor and cramped looking designs. Pandering on par with TTG. But the worst thing about the Loud House is the way they treat boys differently than the girls; in "the toilet humour only affects boys" way.

>>95213911
Ugh. I remember hiding and saging 6 threads one day. Millennials have gone too far.

Dammit /tv/, the only good thing you ever did was Baneposting.
>>

To them it was just a sex scene with 7 shotas and a loli. The reason it had to happen is even more f*cked up in the book.

This is something I once heard a pedo mockingly post. Doesn't that really test your intellegence huh?
>>
>>95210999
I think the real 'brilliance' of The Lego Movie was how they used a real, well known toy property to explore the notion of creativity in a pretty expansive way.

On the other hand while I don't see it that way myself, I can understand that someone would find it overated.

Personally I'd say Gravity Falls.
Like it's great and well executed but I don't find much new.
It's like they do what all the great nostalgic shows or films have done before and they do it really well. But there isn't an angle in there I haven't seen before in a show, except maybe the cryptology.
>>
>>95211569
no one liked Where the Wild Things Are, though

almost like execution matters more than concept
>>
>>95210999
Animation is god tier and pushes the boundaries of what it can be.
>>
>>95213035
the only real answer in the thread
>>
>>95215397
They took a few frames out of the scenes. It gives the appearance of stop motion but it isn't. They did some stop motion, however. But you can get the same multidimensional animation in Gumball's World or whatever that show's called.
>>
>>95213035
everyone talks crap about the comic in every thread for the movie. Why? I think it's great as a look into the psychology of Joker. Same with Batman in Millar's Year One. But people like>>95212460 talk crap about that too.
>>
>>95211506
>Toy Story already did that. Cars already did that.
Not quite the same thing.
>>
>>95216861
Care to explain, anon?
>>
>Most /co/ live action shows.
>Flash
>Arrow
>AoS
>Even Gotham

The problem in all of them is the pacing. They build up all these characters and then you don't even get to hear or see them for a full season. I admit I like to see my favourite characters portrayed by live actors. But is it so wrong to want them done objectively right?
